The altar, which was artistically
decorated with arrangements of
ferns, palms and baskets filled with
yellow chrysanthemums interspers
ed with myriads of white lighted
tapers made a lovely setting for the
bridal party.
Mrs. W. C. Townsend presided at
the piano and accompanied Miss
Mildred Cromartie, of Hazlehurst,
who sang “Because” and “I Love
You Truly,” preceding the ceremony.
The Bridal Chorus from Wagner’s
Lohengrin was played for the pro
cessional and Mendelssohn’s Wed*
ding March as the recessional.
The ushers were Dr. Robert E
Long. Mr. Bickford Long, Mr. James
Harris and Mr. Len Heffner, all of
Roxboro, N. C.
Miss Norma Evans, of Hazlehurst
the attractive maid-of-honor, wa?
gowned in ashes of roses taffeta
fashioned along princess lines with
dropped shoulder effect. She car
ried an arm boquet of American
Beauty roses. Little Miss Joy Carter
of Orlando, Florida, niece of the
bride, was flower girl. She was
daintily clad in a floor-length model
of yellow net over taffeta carrying
on her arm a French basket of rose
petals and a nosegay of yellow but
ton chrysanthemums.
The bride was lovely in a Patou
model of ivory satin featuring full
sleaves to the elbow ending in a
tight pointed cuff over the hands.
The close fitting skirt flared into
a train and her exquisite veil of
French lace arranged in cap effect
was fastened t othe hair with rhine
stone clips. The bridal boquet was
of bride’s roses showered with val-

Mr. Robert L. Nicks, of Duke
University, Durham, N. C., was his
brother’s best man.
The bride is popularly known in
Hazlehurst and also in Waycross,
where she frequently visits her
sister, Mrs. Floyd Williams. After
graduating from the Hazlehurst
High Schools she attended the
Georgia State'College for Women,
at Milledgeville and the Atlanta
Conservatory of Music. She is the
daughter of Mrs. Catherine Wood
ward, of Hazlehurst, and is a very
attractive and accomplished lady.
Mr. Nicks is the son of Rev. S. F.
Nicks and Mrs. Nicks of Cedar
Grove, N. C. He was graduated
from Duke University, at Durham.
N. C.. being awarded his A.B. de
gree in 1929 and his L.L.B. degree
in 1932. He is a member of Sigma
Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and is an
attorney at law in Roxboro, N. C.
Following a wedding trip to Mi
ami and other points in Florida, Mr.
and Mrs. Nicks will be at home after
January 12th. Roxboro, N. C.

the Ace high club on Tuesday night
of this week when she entertained
at three tables of bridge.
Beautiful narcissi was used to
decorate the living room where
several progressions at the game
were enjoyed. Scores were added
at the conclusion of the game and

Missionary Society
Met Friday
In answer to an invitation from
Mesdames K. C. Wagstaff and Emo
ry Winstead, and Miss Ruth Hester,
the Concord Missionary Society
met at Mrs. K. C. Wagstaff’s home
at five o’clock on Friday, January
the fifth, for a dinner party. The
invitation awakened keen anticipa
tion but reality exceeded every an
ticipation. A warm welcome await
ed us in the rooms made comfort
able with open fires and beautiful
ferns and blooming plants.
Pink candles, narcissi, and hya
cinths, skillfully arranged, in the
dining room made a lovely setting
for a three course turkey dinner.
Twenty-eight people, including
guests, were served and thoroughly
enjoyed doing this feastaful justice.
The hostesses ably maintained their
reputation for artistic decoration
and generous hospitality.

The local chapter of Young Tar
Heel Farmers has as a part of its
chapter activities the organization
and operation of a thrift bank. Thei
object of this activity is to encour
age thrift and learn the proper use!

vised home work of the members.)
Good investments are encouraged'
and each member will have the
capital needed to finance his home
work.
At a mid-year inventory of the
thrift work, the following facts were
revealed: Twenty-nine members
had joined the thrift club. These
beautifully appointed living room and
many interesting progressions were
enjoyed. Mrs. J. D. Morris, Jr. was
winner of club prize—a pretty silk
pillow; Mrs. A. M. Burns won visi
tors prize—lovely book-ends.
A delicious two-course supper was
