NEW MUSICAL FILM COLLEEN’TO OPEN AT PALACE MON. Palace Theatre, Monday and Tuesday, March 23 and 24. “Colleen,” Warner Bros, latest musical film, opens at the Palace Theatre Monday with an all start cast, including Dick Powell, Ruby Keeler, Jack Oakie, Joan Blondell, Hugh Herbert, Louise Fazenda and a score of other principals as well as a couple of hundred chorus beau ties and dancing youths. Robert Lord has provided a real plot for this musical comedy, which is said to be packed with delightful and hilarious fun as well as ro-*. mance and some dramatic moments. As a spectacle, the picture pre sents two unique and unusual spec ialty numbers staged by Bobby Connolly, famous dance director, in which scores of beautiful girls participate. One is staged aboard an ocean liner, with everyone from the captain to the crew as well as the passenger doing a dance rhythm. The other takes place in a modiste shop in which a veritable style show is featured. Three original catchy songs were written for the production by the famous composers, Harry Warren and A1 Dubin. Powell sings two of these, one with Keeler, while the other, a comedy number, is sung by Miss Blondell and Oakie. Miss Keeler goes through her fa mous tap steps, some alone, and also with Paul Drapper, the Broad way dancing wizard, who was tak en to Hollywood especially for this production. Others in the cast include Marie Wilson. Luis Alberni, Hobart Cava naugh, Berton Churchill, J. M. Ker rigan, Spencer Charters, Addison Richards, Mary Treen and Charles Coleman. Alfred E. Green directed the production from the screen play by Peter Milne and F. Hugh Her bert. DARING THEME IN THE LADY CONSENTS’ Playing at Palace Theatre For One Day Only, Friday, March 20. A glorious and bizarre adven ture to make a husband realize he is in love with his wife is indulged in by Ann Harding in “The Lady Consents," in which she co-stars with Herbert Marshall. The story alternates between tense drama and sophisticated comedy and is cli maxed with a smashing denoue ment. Ann Harding plays a courageous wife who brings her flirtatious hus band to time and cures him of his romantic strayings. It is a role made to-order for Miss Harding, as it combines sparkling comedy and emotional drama to form a fast moving story. Herbert Marshall plays the phi landering doctor who falls an easy prey to the brandishhments of the charming women with whom he comes in contact. He has the poise J bpfunq &easuru? Walter Abel, seen recently in “The Three Musketeers” and “Two in the Dark,” has the sympathetic role of a young construction engineer who is in love with Mrs. Talbot, played by Miss Harding. Other principals include Margaret Lindsay, Edward Ellis, Hobart Cava naugh and Ilka Chase. Stephen Roberts, who directed William Powell and Ginger Rogers in “Star of Midnight,” staged the film, with Edward Kaufman as as sociate producer. o SUPPORT WAS APPRECIATED I wish to express my apprecia tion of the support given me dur ing the campaign that ended March 7. Even though my prize was small I have ne regrets. The loyal support of my true friends will long live in my memory. For those that I can not thank personally, I am taking this method of thanking you with my most sincere heartfelt thanks.
