TONEY MANERO TO BE GIVEN BIG HAND Greensboro to Turn Oat to Welcome Their New Golf Champion. Greensboro, June 17—Anthony (Tony) Manero, National Open Golf Champion, and hero of the populous and far flung realms of all golfdom as the result of his courageous and record breaking performance in re cently annexing the opfen crown, is to be given a big hand by the “Home Folks” when he returns the latter part of this month to his home Sedgefield Country Club, ac cording to plans announced here. The “Honor Manero” celebration is not to be confined to any of one city or club, and efforts will be made to have the welcome accord ed him in the nature of a gesture from the entire Carolinas as becom ing the feat which he has achieved and the place which he has won in the sporting sun. Accordingly, civic and business representatives, sportmen and citizens of the entire section are being extended an invi tation by the “Honor Manero” cele bration committee to join in a Wel come to the Champion on the date of his return from the scene of his recent triumphs. The exact date of the “Honor Manero” celebration has not been fixed although it appears now that SAVE Pop Kola Crowns O They can be redeemed for tickets to the Dolly Madison or Palace Theatres. In the the celebration is held on a date other than that in dicated, immediate announcement will be sent out of the same, it is stated. The celebration will center around a huge dinner and entertainment to be held in the Sedgefield Manor Building, at which the returning champion will be appropriately welcomed and where many notables of the sports and golfing world are expected to gather. With the din ner and reception scheduled for the evening, plans also call for an ex hibition Golf match featuring Ma nero the same afternoon, to be played over the Sedgefield Country Club course. Another feature of the program will be a parade in Greens boro Honoring Manero asjtte reaches this city. Joseph T.
