S O T Y JOSS VICTORIA GARRETT 'J Social Editor IMrs. Barrett Enter tains For Teachers Saturday Afternoon The teachers of Roxboro school gvere honor guests at a lovely tea {given by Mrs. Mollie Barrett Sat urday aftemdon ,at hdr home on Beams avenue. Roses, zinnias and many other early flowers had been arranged in the home for the occasion. The jguests were met by Mrs. B. B. Strum who introduced them to the receiving line, which was composed of Mrs. Barrett, Misses Leora Bill ingsley, Dorothy Odum, Catherine Davis, Elizabeth Lancaster, Bena Haipdson Epes, Bonnie Josephine Wright, and Miss Leiotte Hall, nurse of Person County Health De partment. Mesdames Robah Baynes and E. 35. Thomas directed the guests to the dining room where Mrs. W. E. Malone and Miss Ruth Newton presided. They, assisted by Misses Grace Osborne Clayton, Marjorie Thomas, Annette Cushwa, Helen Cushwa, Mary Emma Strum and Eva Newton, served punch, cakes, nuts and mints. At the hall door Mrs. George Thomas said good-bye to the guests. o Lovely Party Given r Thursday On Thursday night of last week Mrs. F. W. A. Mills entertained at a lovely party in honor of Mrs. John A. Noell, of New Orleans. Quantities of early fall flowers tvere arranged in the living room where the delightful game of bridge was played at three tables. Mrs. Curtis Oakley scored high for the game and was awarded a prize. The hostess presented Mrs. Noell a lovely gift Refreshments consisting of punch and frozen ices were served the jguests. o— f* MissAbbittls Hostess At Party Miss Jacqueline Abbitt was host jess to a number of her friends at a party Saturday afternoon when 6he celebrated in honor of her birth iday. After playing a number of games on the lawn, the guests were in vited into the dining room where ice cream, cake and candy were served. The table was pretty with a birthday cake bearing seven burn ing candles. The hostess was the recipient of a number of attractive and useful gifts.' o William H. Newell were host and hostess to the members of Edgar Long Memorial church choir on Friday night at their home on South Main street. Upon arrival thq guests were in vited to the back yard where Mrs. Newell, assisted by Mrs. B. B. Newell and Misses Esther Thomp son and Evie Long, served delicious brunswick stew, sandwiches, slaw, ioq cream and cake. The occasion was thoroughly enjoyed py all those attending. o Leggett’s Employees Enjoy Picnic The annual picnic given the en tire force of Leggett’s Department Store was hqld on Thursday night at Stewart’s farm on highway No. 144. About thirty-five or forty mem bers of the store were present and Rev. and Mrs. W. F. West and Mr. Billy West were invited guests. A delicious picnic supper con sisting of chicken, sandwiches, pickles, deviled eggs, boiled ham, cake, pie, and ice tea was bn joyed. o Mrs. Thomas Hostess Thursday Mrs. John A. Noell, of New Or leans, was guest of honor at a love ly luncheon given by Mrs. E. E. Thomas on Thursday morning of last week. Two tables were arranged in the living room for bridge. When scores had been added, Mrs. Curtis Oakley was found high scorer. A lovely gift went to her and one to Mrs. Noell, guest of honor.,. Woody was hostess at a lovely bridge-luncheon Friday morning of last week when she en tertained in honor of Mrs. John A. Noell, of New Orleans. Bridge was played at two tables for some time. Mrs. E. Mrs. Oakley Entertains Club On Wednesday morning Mrs. Curtis Oakley was hostess to the members of the Wednesday club and several additional guests at a lovely bridge-luncheon. The home was pretty with zin nias and other fall flowers. Three tables were arranged for bridge. Mrs. John D. Morris, Jr. won the high score prize for the club, while Mrs. S. Business Woman’s i Circle Meets Mrs. R. M. Spencer and Miss Mary Riley were joint hostesses to the Business. Woman’s Circle of the First Baptist church on Monday night at the home of the former. The meeting was opened with a devotional service which was fol lowed by a business session. “Schools and the Kingdom” was the topic of the program and Rev. W. F. Mr. D. R. Taylor made a speech of welcome to the guests and Mrs. G. I. Prilliman very graciously re sponded in behalf of the ladies of the; Eastern Star. Around seventy five people were present and en joyed the delicious stew and drinks served them.
