S. of the First Baptist church will meet Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the church audito rium. Circle 3 will have charge of the program. Subject for the afternoon, “Our Christmas Offering in Kingdom Building.” Circle 1 and 2 tied in attendance in October. o Ca-Vel Bridge Party Mrs. F. H. McDonald was hostess to the Ca-Vql brdige party Wednes day evening at her home on Vir ginia Avenue. Four tables were placed in the liv ing room. Several progressions of con tract bridge were enjoyed. Scores were tallied and Mrs. George Cur rier was winner of high score. Mrs. G. H. Elmore received low score. Mrs. Riley Oakley received the visitors prize. The hostess served a salad course with coffee. o Prof. Howard Becker of Smith Colleges with his wife and three children, completed a 1,200-mile tour of Europe on one five-passen ger bicycle. CL Woman’s Club Meets The Woman’s Club met on Mon day afternoon at 3 o’clock in the library at the Community House. Mrs. R. H. Shelton, president, pre sided and several matters of im portant business were brought up. The president gave a report of the district meeting which was held in Zebulon, N. C. last week. The Wo man’s Club voted to help in the annual drive for the American Red Cross on November 11th. The program for the afternoon was in charge of Mrs. Mamie Mer ritt, chairman of the Public Health department of the Woman’s Club, who presented Dr. S. V. Lewis, di rector of the Person County Health Department in an interesting lec ture on Small Pox and its Preven tion. Dr. Lewis demonstrated his talk by showing the vaccinations of two one-year-old colored babies who had been vaccinated one week be fore with no bad results. After the program a delightful social hour was enjoyed. o Andrew Wisniewski of Milwau kee, who is the father of 11 child ren, offered two of them in pay ment of a $35 debt to a furniture company. T. R. Adams of Cincinnati be queathed $70,000 to his niece “so long as she properly looked after and provided a home! for his dog.” Birthday Party Little Miss Gladys Dickerson cele brated her 10th birthday on Oct. 31 at her home at Ca-Vel. A number of guests were invit ed. Several games were played, aft er which Miss Dickerson entertain ed her mends with tap dancing and singing.
