Parting Shower
On Saturday evening a number
of friends gave Mrs. F. H. McDonald
a shower of “parting gifts” at the
home of Mrs. Mclver Featherston.
Mrs. McDonald and daughters, Mary
Louise, Patsy, and Lee left Monday
for Irvington, N. J. where they will
make their home.
The employees of Leggett’s Dept.
Store presented a pair of embroid
ered pillow cases to the honoree at
the shower.
Lovely refreshments were served
by the hostess.

Miss Hall Honored
Miss Leiotte Hall, bride-elect of
this month, was honored on Monday
evening at a bridge party given by
Misses Mary and Margaret Hester
at their home on South Main St.
Two tables were placed for pro
gressive bridge. Miss Catherine Win
stead received high score prize and
the bride-elect was presented a
piece of silver in her pattern by the
hostesses.
Delicious refreshments were ser
ved.

Birthday Party
Master Shields Clarke, son of Mr.
and Mrs. L. C. Clarke, celebrated his
seventh birthday by entertaining his
friends at his home on Lamar
Street, Monday afternoon.
The guests were entertained at
many games. Those present were:

The host received many useful
gifts.
The host’s mother, Mrs. Clarke,
assisted by Mrs. R. P. Burns, served
punch, cake and ice cream.
Circle No. 5
Circle No. 5 of the First Baptist
Church met at the home of Miss
Sue Frederick on Monday evening,
June 14.
Mrs. W. W. Woods was in. charge
of the program for the evening, the
topic being “Tl<e Italians.” Devo
tional was led by Miss Maude Mon
tague. After the regular business
meeting a social hour was held.
Ice cream and cake were served
to the fourteen members present.

The Y. W. A of the First Baptist
Church held its regular meeting at
the home of Miss Nancy Bradsher
on South Main Street with Miss
Marjorie Thomas as hostess.
In the absence of the president the
vice-president presided over the
meeting. The program for the even
ing was titled, “Italy Today and
Yesterday.” Miss Bradsher led the
devotional. Three new members
joined the Y. W. A. at this meeting.
During the social hour refresh
ments were served by the hostess.

Surprise Dinner
On June 13th about fifty friends
and relatives met at the home of
Mr. G. W. Ashley and gave him a
surprise birthday dinner. An ex
cellent spread was on the table un
der the big oak tree in the yard.
(Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the
meal. In the afternoon pictures were
made after which chairs were taken
