Ehould be something. That’s what
Paramount has done in its newest
comedy, “Hotel Haywire,” which
opens today at the Dolly Madison
Theatre.
Headed by Leo Carrillo and Lyn
ne Overman, the cast includes
known comedians even in bit roles.
Carrillo plays “Zodiac Zippe,” as
trologer and gentle racketeer, who
se money-making activities include
everything short of murder. Lynne
Overman plays the role of a den
tist who finds himself headed for
divorce through a practical joke
played on him by a poker-playing
friend.
Benny Baker, a vaudeville actor,
turned detective, has an opportunity
in “Hotel Haywire” to show how a
detective should and shouldn’t act.
Assisted by his vaudeville partner,
Collette Lyons, who makes her mo
vie debut in this picture, Baker gets
in Overman’s hair while he and his
partner trail both Overman and his
.wife, played by Spring Byington.
Miss Byington, remembered for
her part in “Ah, Wilderness,” adds
ft comic portrayal to her list of suc
cessful movie roles as the wife.
Chester Conklin, former Mack Sen
nett comedian and Teddy Hart,
whose few screen appearances have
made him a man to watch, are cast
as partners in a law firm involved
in the divorce proceedings. George
Barbier, Porter Hall, Mary Carlisle
and John Patterson round out the
cast.
“Hotel Haywire” was directed by
George Archinbaud.

PALACE IS STRONG
DRAMATIC FARE
Picture starring Edward G. Ro
binson and Bette Davis Play
Today, Thursday, And
Friday
With three of the strongest per
sonalities of the modem screen—
Bette Davis, Edward G. Robinson,
and Humphrey Bogart—heading the
drama of the fight ring, opens to
cast, “Kid Galahad,” a Warner Bros,
day at the Palace Theatre.
Made from a best selling novel
by Frances Wallace, which also ran
in serial form in a national maga
zine, “Kid Galahad” has a very po
tent story, woven into a background
of the sporting world.
Robinson plays a fight promoter
who has one contender for the
championship. “Fluff,” lps girl
friend, played by the very capable
Miss Davis, aids and abets him in
his work. Bogart is a rival promoter,
and a killer.
The title role is filled by Wayne
Morris, a promising young man who
packs a terrific wallop in his fight
scenes as well as his love scenes
with Jane Bryan, another screen
newcomer who seems to be going
places fast.
The story is of the two rival fight
managers and tlleir attempts to
double cross each other in swift
moving and full of action. The fight
(between ‘Kid Galahad” and E|o-i
gart’s man, Chuck McGraw (played
by William Haade, the steel-worker
who sky-rocketed to fame with his
role in the Broadway play “Iron
Man”) is one of the most terrific
ever screened.
Packed with wallop after wallop
and a double “bumping off” for its
climax, “Kid Galahad is a picture
you won’t want to miss.
