That’s what Paramount has done in its newest comedy, “Hotel Haywire,” which opens today at the Dolly Madison Theatre. Headed by Leo Carrillo and Lyn ne Overman, the cast includes known comedians even in bit roles. Carrillo plays “Zodiac Zippe,” as trologer and gentle racketeer, who se money-making activities include everything short of murder. Lynne Overman plays the role of a den tist who finds himself headed for divorce through a practical joke played on him by a poker-playing friend. Benny Baker, a vaudeville actor, turned detective, has an opportunity in “Hotel Haywire” to show how a detective should and shouldn’t act. Assisted by his vaudeville partner, Collette Lyons, who makes her mo vie debut in this picture, Baker gets in Overman’s hair while he and his partner trail both Overman and his .wife, played by Spring Byington. Miss Byington, remembered for her part in “Ah, Wilderness,” adds ft comic portrayal to her list of suc cessful movie roles as the wife. Chester Conklin, former Mack Sen nett comedian and Teddy Hart, whose few screen appearances have made him a man to watch, are cast as partners in a law firm involved in the divorce proceedings. George Barbier, Porter Hall, Mary Carlisle and John Patterson round out the cast. “Hotel Haywire” was directed by George Archinbaud. o Notices of delinquency have been sent to several hundred employers in North Carolina who have not paid contributions on their 1936 payrolls to the State Unemployment Compensation Fund. Contributions of North Carolina employers amounted on June 10th to $5,016.48, of which $2,984,740.93 was for 1936 and 2.032,173.52 was for four months of 1937. Robinson, and Humphrey Bogart—heading the drama of the fight ring, opens to cast, “Kid Galahad,” a Warner Bros, day at the Palace Theatre. Made from a best selling novel by Frances Wallace, which also ran in serial form in a national maga zine, “Kid Galahad” has a very po tent story, woven into a background of the sporting world. Robinson plays a fight promoter who has one contender for the championship. “Fluff,” lps girl friend, played by the very capable Miss Davis, aids and abets him in his work. Bogart is a rival promoter, and a killer. The title role is filled by Wayne Morris, a promising young man who packs a terrific wallop in his fight scenes as well as his love scenes with Jane Bryan, another screen newcomer who seems to be going places fast. The story is of the two rival fight managers and tlleir attempts to double cross each other in swift moving and full of action. The fight (between ‘Kid Galahad” and E|o-i gart’s man, Chuck McGraw (played by William Haade, the steel-worker who sky-rocketed to fame with his role in the Broadway play “Iron Man”) is one of the most terrific ever screened. Packed with wallop after wallop and a double “bumping off” for its climax, “Kid Galahad is a picture you won’t want to miss.
