BETTE DAVIS
IN ‘JEZEBEL’ ’
COMING MON.
Bette Davis, Henry Fonda, George
Brent Coming To Dolly Madi
son Theatre Mon. and Tues.
“Jezebel,” a colorful and exciting
romantic drama of the Deep South
shortly before the Civil War, will
be the feature attraction tomorrow
and Tuesday at the Dolly Madison
Theatre.
Bette Davis is co-starred with
Henry Fonda, Georgy B,rent and
Margaret Lindsay. Other noted and
popular players in the cast include
Fay Bainter, Donald Crisp, Richard
Cromwell, Henry O’Neill, .John
Liteli and Spring Byington. The pic
ture was directed by William Wy
ler from a screenplay by Abem Fin
kel and Clements Ripley.
/ Miss Davis, who won the Acad
emy Award as the best actress in
1935, declares that this is the best
picture part she has ever had, not
excluding her great work as the
slavey in ‘‘Of Human Bondage”
with Leslie Howard.
She is a wilful, spoiled, tempest
uous young Dixie belle who achie
ves the name of the wickel Biblical
character Jezebel because she de
fies Southern traditions. She breaks
hearts with dashing unconcern. She
smokes, she prefers julips to sherry
—in short she’s a modern miss in an
old-fashioned setting.
She has two favorite suitors, one
a conservative young banker, play
ed by Mr. Fonda, and the other, a
handsome young rake, portrayed by
Mr. Brent. >
The period is that of the great
yellow fever scourge in New Or
leans in the early 1850’s. Costumes,
settings, dialogue and all the other
atmospheric conditions of that day
are said to be faithfully repraduced
Previewers consider “Jezebel” tops

DOWN THE CHUTE!
San Francisco, Cal. Motorists
pay about $12,500 a day to cross the
Golden Gate Bridge, mostly silver.
A problem arose as to how this cur
rency could be safely lodged down
stairs in the teller’s cage from the
toll-offices above. A three and a
half foot chute now carries the
money into the cashier’s safe in
canvass bags, far removed from the
temptations of banditry.
IN MEMORY
In sad, but loving remembrance
of Mrs. W. R. Anderson who de
parted this life, two months ago.
So sad and sudden was the call
Your death was such a shock to all,
But with our troubles,
God knew best
And gently took you home to rest.
Her cheery smile and kindly ways
Are pleasant to recall,
She had a smile for everyone
And died beloevd by all.
The flowers we placed upon her
grave
May wither and decay,
But the love for her, who sleeps
beneath ,
Will never fade away.
Now we think of you so often
And tears over you, we often shed
But we hope in heaven to meet you
Where no parting words are said.
Farewell, farewell, but not forever
Here Now!
