Wilburn Thursday Literary Club Hostess A delightful meeting of the Thursday Literary club was held with Mrs. R. L. Wilburn as host ess. The members and Mrs. Sallie Morris, special guest, assembled at 6 o’clock and were ushered in to the dining room where a din ner was served with the assistan ce of Mrs. A. S. deVlaming and the hostess’ daughter, Mrs. M. C. Clayton, and Mrs. W. C. Timber lake of Durham. A lovely center piece of pink and white flowers was placed on the lace covered table. Pink tapers were also 1 used. During the business session of ficers for the next year were nam ed as follows: Mrs. H. K. Sanders, president; Mrs. J. H. Lanning, vice-president; and Mrs. B. B. Strum, secretary. Money was do. nated for purchasing children’s books to be placed in the woman’s library. Roll call was answered with current events. The program consisted of two numbers. Mrs. Malone read the biography of “Joseph Bentonelli, tenor.” and Mrs. Lanning present, ed a paper on “Child Life in Co lonial Days.” Members attending were: Mes dames I. O. Abbitt, H. L. Study Club Has “Women” As Meeting Topic Mrs. R. M. Spencer was host ess to the Study Club last Thurs day afternoon at the home of her mother, Mrs. E. B. Yoncey, on North Main street. The general topic for discussion was “Women,” and roll call was answered by naming noted wo men. Mrs. J. B. Snipes gave the first paper, her subject being “Women in Medicine and Hospi. tal Work." Mrs. G. E. Moore of Oxford, who retains her member ship in the club, read a paper on “Women in Education.” The guests were invited into the dining room where a delight ful salad course and strawberry short cake were served. Flowers of the spring season graced the prettily appointed table and also were used in living room and hall. Members present were Mesda mes R. G. Cole, R. C. Hall, Edgar Masten, O. B. Mcßroom, T. T. Critcher delightful ly entertained a number of friends at a dinner party at her home on South Main street Tues day evening. The table was tastefully dec orated for the occasion with a profusion of spring flowers. Yel. low candles in distinctive holders enhanced the beauty of the set ting. Scores were tallied with club high going to Mrs. Mangum and consolation to Mrs. Cunning ham and guest award to Mrs. Cheek.
