Year’s Work
(Continued From Front Page)
for their helpfulness and co-oper
ation. “Welcome” is the motto of
(Jentral school.
Deep appreciation is due the
Kiwanis Club for the aid given to
the number of less fortunate
children in our school. Also to
the many friends who have help
ed in any way by providing milk
or clothes or what not. Many a
little heart has been gladened
and many little bodies warmed
by the generous gifts. To the
room representatives a great
measure of gratitude is felt for
their many “treats,” aids, co-op
eration, etc.
The school feels very proud of
its Patrol Boys. This year is the
first year that Central School
boys have had a part in the pat
rol system and they have , ren
dered exceedingly creditable ser
vice to the school, town ■ -and
children of the community.
Pupil participation in extra
curricular activities has besn
greater this year than probably
any other school year. The part
taken in the Red Cross drive,
Christmas and Easter seal cam
paigns, Clean-Up Week cam
paign and others not recalled at
present has been of great value,
not only to pupils but the com
munity as well. Then, too, the
rendition of the Christmas Can
tata, The Great Deliverer, and
the May Day program are other
highlights in the school’s exten-
Many worthwhile additions
have been made to each of the
grade libraries, maps and a globe
to the grammar grades, and sets
of books for the primary grades.
The Physical Education equip
ment has been supplemented by
see-saws, volley ball courts, etc.
Realizing that this school year
has not been perfect by any
means it is felt that considering
the shortage of teachers and
space much has been accomplish
ed. Perhaps here is the place too,
to say that the Central school
wish to ask that it, too, may have
a substantial consideration as to
needs during the summer vaca
tion. Byway of suggestion may
the floors, walls, ceilings, boards,
windows and desks be gone over,
renovated and put into usable
condition before opening of school
in the fall?
Best wishes to all our freinds
for a happy vacation.
To Mr. J. W. Gaddy, Jr. the
school, pupils and faculty wish
the best and hope that his suc
cessor will be as .pleasant to know
.and work with.

Os Bogus Salesman
By Melvin Burke
Melvin H. Burke, secretary of
the Roxboro Chamber of Com
merce, was notified by the St.
Louis Chamber of Commerce to
day, that an individual, who ap
parently obtained one of the
catalogues of |the Briell-Rogers
Cotton Goods Company of St.
Louis, is falsely representing
himself as a salesman of this
company.
He is taking orders for uni
forms and various items from
hotels, beauty parlors, tourist
camps and other small business
concerns, collects cash deposits
and advises customers the goods
will be shipped later. In some
places checks have been made
payable to himself and cashed
locally.
All firms and business estab
llehments of Roxboro as well as
the general public are urged to
take notice of this “Business
racket” so that no one in this
vicinity will be victimized by this
individual.
