Valuation.
A gain of approximately three
quarters of a million dollars in
real and personal property val
uation in Person County will be
the result of the 1939 revaluation,
County Tax Supervisor J. S. Wal
ker said yesterday.
As the list takers closed their
books May 31, the total valuation
stood at $9,737,565, $6,724,633 of
which was classed as real proper
ty and $3,012,932 as personal pro
perty, it was pointed out. These
' figures represent a total gain of
$632,857 in valuation over that
/J*
While total valuation figures
took a decided jump over last
year, it is interesting to note that
the gain was registered entirely
in real property while personal
property valuation took a slight
drop. While the gain in real pro
perty amounted to $633,344, the
loss of personal property was
only $487, which left a substan
tial gain in the end.
To be added to the total val
uation of real and personal pro
perty mentioned above will be
the slightly over a million dollars
annually listed for corporation
taxes and future “discoveries” of
taxable property which the tax
supervisor estimates at SIOO,OOO,
all of which added together give
the county a total valuation ap
proximately $11,000,000.
As expected Roxboro township
led all others in valuation, being
listed at $5,364,640, of which $2,-
429,095 is within the city limits.

Next Monday
All Roxboro, Person Residents
Invited To Attend Every Event
With plans virtually complete for Roxboro and Person
County’s first annual “Hospitality Week” to get underway
Monday, county and town alike are awaiting anxiously the
first influx of visitors.
The vanguard of invitees expectedly will begin arriving
during the weekend with the number of guests increasing
daily until Friday’s festivities which will probably climax the
week’s planned entertainment.
With no way of determining just how many guests have
already been invited throughout the county, leaders yester
day unofficially estimated 2,000 as the number of invita
tions which have been sent out to prospective guests. Ap
proximately 600 invitations have been sent out from Hos
pitality Week headquarters but this is believed only a por
tion of those who have been invited privately throughout the
town and county. Many of the invitations are also for entire
families.
The Rotary committee of R. L. Harris and J. W. Noell this
week announced that William B Umstead, Durham attorney
and former sixth district congressman, would be the princi
pal speaker at the mammoth picnic planned by the Rotarians
for Wednesday. Widely known throughout the county, the
selection of former solicitor of this judicial district is expect
ed to attract wide approval and support.
The Hospitality Week committee, headed by Mrs. B. G-
Clayton, yesterday emphasized again that every family
throughout town and county is cordially invited to attend
and take part in every event planned during the week.
According to Mrs. Clayton this morning, a date bureau
will be conducted at Roxboro Drug store and boys and girts
may register here during the week and dates will be secured
for those desiring them.
The complete program is as follows:
WEEK’S PROGRAM
