Harris and Miss Katharine Harris left Sunday for Providence, R. I. where Miss Har ris has entered school. Mrs. Glenn Brandon, case worker for the Person County welfare department, is ill at the home of her mothr, Mrs. Bertha Thompson, of Durham. Miss Ruth Newton, who under went an appendectomy at Com munity hospital Tuesday, is re ported to be improving. Miss Ethel Clayton, who is sec retary of Community Hospital, had a tonsilectomy Tuesday at the hospital. Miss Clayton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. O. Clayton. Mrs. Marshall Frederick enter ed Community Hospital for treat ment Tuesday. Charles Green, who recently underwent a major operation at Community hospital, is improv ing and may have visitors. A. S. Hassan, who is a patient at Community hospital is some what better. Mrs. R. F. Johnston, of Winston- Salem, spent the weekend here with her father, I. T. Stanfield Mrs. Earl Wilkrson left Thurs day for Watts Hospital, Durham, where she will undergo an opera tion. Henry Sergeant of Durham was a Roxboro visitor Wednesday rJght. W. D. Merritt attended the Carolina-Citadel football game in Chapel Hill last Saturday. Mrs. E. B. Craven and Mrs. Thomas Wilson spent Wednesday afternoon in Durham. Edwin Hamlin >of Burlington, was a Roxboro visitor over the past weekend. Walter Murray of Southern Pines, spent Sunday in Roxboro. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Merritt, of Greenville .were in Roxboro for the weekend. Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Austin, of Smithfield, were in town Sun day for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. 1. E. Austin. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harris and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Jackson have moved into the house on Academy street formerly occu pied by tre Joe Crowells. Mr. and Mrs. Harris have the upstairs apartment. Mrs. J. E. D. Bradsher. The bride and groom entered unattended and the Rev. W. F. West heard the marriage vows using the impressive ring cere mony. . Only intimate friends and close relatives of the couple were pre sent. Th home was beautifully dec orated with early fall flowers^ The bride wore a costume suit of viking blue, with accessories of blackberry wine. She wore a shoulder corsage of sweetheart roses and valley lilies. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Joyner. She attended East Carolina Teachers’ college and for the past three years has been a member of the faculty of Auburn school in Wake county. Mr. Jones is the son of Mr. and Mrs J A. Jones of Raleigh. He holds a responsible position with the North Carolina Equipment company of Raleigh. Following a wedding trip to Washington, D. Hanson, Thursday, September 21, at Jackson, New Hampshire. Miss Irwin, who lived in Rox boro for more than a year, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Irwin, of Bradley Beach, N. J. and since she left Roxboro she has been engaged in social ser vice and welfare work in Mon mouth County, N. J. She is an alumna of Duke university and a graduate of the University of North Carolina, at Chapel Hill. Mr. Hanson has been connect-' ed with a telephone company at Asbury Park, N. J., but he and Mrs. Hanson will make their home at 374 Park street, Hack ensack, N. J. While in Roxboro Mrs. Hanson lived with Dr. and Mrs. H. M. Beam on Lamar street. She was quite popular here and made many friends. Formal announcements were received here last week. o MRS. CLAYTON TO BE HONORED ON BIRTHDAY On the eighth of October, the children of Mrs. Jane Clayton are planning to meet at her home and serve dinner in honor of her 95th. birthday.
