New chairman of the Eighth
District Federation of Home De
monstration clubs, who will serve ■
for two years, is Mrs. Winston
Strayhom, of Orange county,
who, with the new vice chairman,
Mrs. C. E. Brooks, of Person
county, was yesterday elected to
office at an annual district meet
ing held in Roxboiw, where re
gistered attendance reached more
than 500, with many additional
woman and not a few men as
guests.
Chief speaker was A. C. Kim
rey, dairy specialist, of North
Carolina State college, Raleigh,
who had as his topic, “The Value
of Milk in the Rural Home”. Mr.
Kimrey sought to impress upon
his hearers the fact that there
are in North Carolina approxi
mately 92,000 farm families who
do not have milk and who make
no attempt to supply it by estab
lishing a dairy or even attempt
to keep one cow to supply milk
fkr themselves. Mr. Kimrey em
phasized the importance of milk
in the family diet, especially for
growing children, and urged the
assembled club women from five
counties to see to it that this
micst important item be supplied
to farm families, not as a money
making proposition but as a sour
ce of food supply vitally import
ant to their families.
Extending greetings of the city
and the county were Mayor S. F.
Nicks, Jr., of Roxboro, and R. P.
Burns, county attorney, who re
presented County commissioners.
The gathering came to a close in
the early afternoon with a gen
erous picnic luncheon served by
members of (the Person clubs, act
ing as hostesses Hot the day. La
ter in the afternoon numbers of
the visitors inspected places of
interest in the city, paying par
tcular attention to the rural cen
ter and to other activities here
carried on for benefit of farm wo
men in this area.
Thlsse in charge of the meet
ing were especially pleased at the
large attendance at the meeting,
which was held at Roxboro high
school, where the scene was one
of continuous activity from ten
o'clock in the morning until mid
afternd:n.

‘Pinocchio’ Comes
As Disney Feature.

A large cast of typical Disney
characters are to be seen in “Pi
nocchio”, Walt Disney’s second
feature-length production, an
RKO Radio release, which opens
today at the Palace theatTe.
They include Geppetto, the
kindly old wood-carver who lives
with his pets, Figaro the kitten,
and Cleo the gold fish. He carves
the little wooden puppet Pinoc
chio and in answer to his wish for
a real boy, the Blue Fairy endows
the puppet with life, appointing
Jimmy Cricket as his conscience.
The Fox (J. Worthington FouL
fellow) and the Cat (Giddy) are
small-fry comic villains who seil
Pinocchio to Stromlboli, the un
scrupulous puppet master. The
Coachman buys srtupid little boys
and takes them to Pleasure Is
land where they eventually turn
into donkeys. Lampwick is the
toughest of the little boys on
Pleasure Island; and Monstro is
the Whale who guards the en
trance to Pleasure Island and
swallows ships.

Thursday evening at the cabin of
the Hancock lawn.
This occasion was in celebration
of the graduating class, who re
ceived their certificates Friday
in the classroom at the close of
exercses. The class presented
their teacher, Mrs. Fuller, a beau
tiful picture in antique style in
appreciation <cf her work and
friendship.
