Sounds Good To Me
A Roxboro golfer has suggested the following way t
get money for the greens at the Country Club.:
“Have a golf tournament every three months and charg
fifty cents entrance fee. The tournament would be for clul
members or any others who cared to come in . Differen
kinds of tournaments could be held.
The money derived from each tournament could be usee
on the greens. For instance the spring tournament could be
designated for green no. 2 and 3. The summer tournamenl
for green no.. 4 and 5 and so on.
Prizes would be a golf ball or two, nothing that cost am
money to speak of.
It was suggested by this golfer that practically all of the
elub members who played golf would enter the tournament
and that profit from each should be about twenty-five or
thirty dollars. If you spend fifteen dollars on a green, that
green should be in much better shape.”
Well, that’s the suggestion and we pass it on to the
tournament committee for whatever it is worth. Our charge
is nothing.
O
Tournament A Success
The big basketball tournament among local high schools
is a big success. Good games have been played and good
teams have won and lost.
We offer our congratulations to all officials.

Joe Louis home from his not-so-arduous ring warfait,
said today he was expecting to be called to report for avmj
duty
My draft number is 1611,"- big Joe explained. ' This
placer! me 378th in my local draft board. 1 returned my que;>
tionaire Jan. 7 and expect to be called any day for a physVa!
examination.”
The heavyweight champion said he thought life as a
soldier wouldn’t be bad, explaining ‘T’ve taken orders for
years from my trainer, so won’t have any trouble taking ci
ders in the army.”
Joe would probably make a good soldier and on top of
that he should certainly add much to army life. The boys in
the regiment could watch him train and then he could gen
off to defend his title about as often as it was necessary.
It really looks like Uncle Sam is going to get the athletes
and you can watch out.
