Repairs too long neglected jeopardize the value of properties, whereas repairs and improvements pay ample dividends not only in family comfort but in dollars and cents as well. This transformation is amazing, yet there are thousands of older homes scattered over the country which can be similarly treated and restored to value. These older homes of substantial size can play an important part in the defense housing pro gram. They may be modernized and converted into apartments, suites, and rooms to take care of defense industrial workers. Title I of the Federal Housing Administration’s program provides for convenient monthly payments over a period of several years to repay the cost of repairs and alterations. Before the process of insertion can begin, a national draft lot tery, similar to the one held last fall, will be held today in Wash ington. Already local draft offi cials have shuffled the cards of men who registered the first of this month, giving them serial numbers, which are published to day along with the names. The national drawing will de termine the order in which the July registrants will be inserted in the local board’s lists. For ex ample, suppose the first number drawn is 75.
