SPORTS SLANT We Are Wondering On Friday we are still wondering whether the Rose Bowl football game will be played. The papers con tinue to say that it will, but the situation remains rath er serious as far as the war is concerned. Personally, we do not think that there is any great danger, but the war department may have different ideas about the matter. So far this department has said nothing—and so the game now stands to be played. V * * * * * Devils Stand High The AP All-America team had listed on a team or gave honorable mention to the following Duke players: Lach, Karmazin, Gantt, Piasecky, Goddard, Barnett Davis and Seigfried. Now that’s 8 out of 11 starting men that will be in the Rose Bowl game. The AP doesn’t mention a man unless he is good and so when you put these 8 men against Oregon State you are going to see the fur fly. * **»,** Thorp Back Elbert Thorp, popular colored greenskeeper of the Roxboro Country Club, has returned to this county af ter having been in the hospital for over a hundred days. Elbert is a nice fellow and he deserves all of the | help that the golfers have or will give him. As readers of this paper remember he was badly burned about four months ago as he was filling his tractor with oil prior to doing some mowing on the course. He expects to be back at work soon.
