Warren Wilson Defeats
Swannanoa Nine, 3-2

By Quentin Enloe
The fast-stepping Warren-Wil
son College baseball team defeat
ed Swannanoa high school’s vars
ity last week, 3-2, on the college
diamond. Less than 500 college
fans watched the fray.
Warren-Wilson, bouncing on
Norman Ayers tall right-hander,
scored all three markers in the
third frame. Lefty Gene Harper
marched into the fray during the
fourth inning, but went to an ear
ly shower with the bases loaded
in the fifth.
Swannanoa dented the rubber
in the sixth inning. Doe Edmonds
opened the frame with a scream
ing single into centerfield terri
tory. Warren Wilson’s Bartemus,
huge southpaw slanter, walked
Hardin after Edmonds had stole
the second sack. Bailey popped up
to the shortstop, but Kenny Mills,
leading hitter of the day, sent
a sharp single to leftfield, Ed
monds and Hardin scampering
home with the locals’ only runs of
the day.
