Brittain returned from an extended visit with her son in Miami, Florida, last week. The First Baptist Church, Le noir, is building a large cottage housing fifty people on their lot in the Rattle Snake Knob vicinity. The work is to be completed by June 1. Bill Clay of Lenoir is in charge of construction, assisted by Ted Broyhill. The state highway commission is widening the Ridgecrest road from Black Mountain to the Mc- Dowell county line. Bridges, cul verts, and drains are being lengthened. Steam shovels, trucks, tractors, and bulldozers are in evidence. Power ami light, tele phone and telegraph poles are be ing set back to make room for six foot shoulders on both sides of the highway. Friends at Ridgecrest have just' received news of the death of E. L. Hon, DeLand, Florida, who was one of the founders and the first business manager of the Ridge crest Baptist Assembly. At the time of the incorporation of Ridgecrest he was business mana ger of Stetson University, De- Land. The Rev. P. M. Pridgen, Charleston, S. C., spent several days conditioning his cottage “Rest-uh-while”, and while here last week arranged with the state highway commission for widening the road in front of the cottage. “Brantwood” cottage was oc cupiedlast week by the owners the Rev. and Mrs. Wm. E. Brant of Plum Branch, South Carolina. Several of the members of the Ridgecrest church are attending the All-Church Training School in Asheville this week where Dr. J. Kenzie, and Miss Valletta Black N. Binford, Miss Margauerite Mc are teaching classes. Robert Guy, manager, Ridge crest Assembly, and the Rev. J. Fred Stimson made a business trip to Bristol, Virginia, last Fri day. W. L. Harris and family moved from their home at Old Field Gap to their new home at Buckeye Cove where he will be engaged in business. Montreat News Mrs. Mellimger Henry- Miss Elizabeth Hoyt, Miss Helen Miles, Miss Julia Stokes, Mrs. Crosby Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholus Watkins, and Mrs. Mell inger Henry attended the birthday banquet of the Black Mountain Woman’s club held at the Monte Vista hotel on April 15. Miss Annie Bell Hill of the Historical Foundation, gave the program at the meeting of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Black Mountain Presbyterian church on April 20. A recent acquistion to the His torical Foundation is a pair of wooden long handled offering plates from the First Presbyterian church of Yazoo City, Mississipi. Dr. and Mrs. Barlend H. Kroeze of Jamestown, North Dakata, have been guests in the Crosby Adams home. Dr. Kroeze is president emeritus of Jamestown college. Dr. Thomas Spence, director of the Historical Foundation, attend ed a meeting of Concord Presby tery held at Barium Springs, N. C. The junior-senior banquet of the Montreat- School for girls was held Saturday night, April 17, at Assembly Inn. Miss Ruth Collette is president of the Montreat college alumnae.
