Hi is recovering from an illness tha has kept him confined to the housi for a month. Dr. Moore was th< recipient of many cards, letters messages, and gifts over the weel end. He is putting the finishing touches on “Points for Emphasis for 1952, a lesson help for Sun day school teachers which will b< its thirtv-fifth year of publica tion. The community in genera misses “uncle Bill Burgin wh< left us a few weeks ago, returning to Old Fort with the Dallas Lann ing family. The March of Dimes has^ beet underway here since last h ridai evening when Mrs. W. Dean Wil lis of Black Mountain and Mrs Dr. Thomas Burnett began a house^ to-house canvass which will read into the treasury of every familj before the “March” is concluded. Mrs. Pinckney R. Holman, thi genial and accommodating post mistress at Ridgecrest, has shakei off the case of influenza whicl kept her at home for several day: and is back in the postoffice dis pensing first-class cheer alonj with first-class mail. How drab and dull the world would be without the smiles and shouts of our children. We thank Heaven for them and for our schools. Miss Corrie Hardin arrived Sat urday from Greer, S. C., where she spent several months and will be with her brother, the Rev. El bert F. Hardin and Mrs. Hardin at their cottage “Hills of Home. Rose Reid, student at Carson Newman college, Jefferson City, Tenn., spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Hatcher at their cottage, “Boone Crest. Mrs. Clifton V. Gray is out again after being confined to her 1 home for a month with a severe cold. „ ... Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McKinney and children moved to their new 1 home they recently purchased on Montreat road in Black Mountain. Ted Jollay, Summerville, S. C., spent Sunday with his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Jollay at their home “Hide-a-W ay” cot Attending services at Black ■ Mountain Sunday evening, were Dr. and Mrs. W. L. Hatcher, Mrs. J. N. Binford, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Pate, and Perry Morgan. The 1 Rev. J. N. Binford of Ridgecrest gave the sermon. Funeral services for Mrs. Will Morris, 59, who died at her home ; here on Tuesday night of last week, were held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Pine Grove Metho dist church near Old Fort and were conducted by the Rev. Mil ton Hollifield. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Morris had been ill for several months. Surviving are the husband and five sons, Joe, Bob and Willie Lee of Ridgecrest, Ellis P. of Detroit, Mich., and Walter L. of Lexington; one daughter, Mary, of Ridgecrest; also two brothers, Tommy Morris of Black Mountain and Russell Morris of Candler; one sister, Mrs. Nane Barnes of Rlack Mountain, star route, some half-brothers and half-sisters and five grand-child ren. Pall bearers were Herman Den ny, W. M. Pate, Dallas Panning, Cecil M. Perry, and Charles Jol lay. The sympathy of the commun ity goes out to the stricken and bereaved family. Harrison Fun eral home was in charge of ar rangements. The Rev. and Mrs. Elbert F. Hardin spent a few days last week with relatives in Greer, S. C. Bid dix, Saluda, Sunday evening. Lorraine Carver, Black Moun tain, has accepted a secretarial position in the business office of Camp Ridgecrest for Boys. The Loyal Temperance League held its .January meeting at the home of J. H. Greenlee one day last week with the leader, Mrs. W. L. Hatcher, in charge of the program. Circle No, 2 Meets With Mrs. Pressley Mrs. Harvey Pressley was host ess to Circle Xo. 2 of the Metho dist church Tuesday evening, Jan. 23, at her home on Lakey street. Mrs. W. E. McDougle, circle chairman, presided during the business session. Plans were dis cussed for several money-making projects to be carried out by the circle in the near future.
