KIRKPATRICK . m ITS MAYOR. ATTEST: W. DEAN WILLIS CLERK - TREASURER. Jan. 11, 18, 25; Feb. 1 * be 150 degrees F. At lower temp eratures, the washing efficiency decreases. The amount of water used will depend on the make of dishwasher used. Sometimes dishes are stored in the dishwasher until the next meal. Many homemakers make a pract ice of taking the clean dishes from the dishwasher directly to the table. The automatic dishwasher is truly time-saving. It takes only a few minutes to scrape the dishes and load the dishwasher. If yours is an average-sized family, the dishwasher need only be operated once or twice a day. Breakfast dishes may be scraped and rinsed to keep food from hardening on the surface and placed in the dish washer. The dishes from lunch may be given a similar treatment. Then after dinner, a full load of dishes may be washed at one time. Soaps or cleansing agents which form suds are not used in the automatic dishwasher. The use of sudsing soaps hinders rather than helps the washing action. Only non-sudsing detergents are recommended for use in the auto matic dishwasher. Detergents are mixtures of var ious chemical agents which com bine to do a cleaning job. Many of them create very little suds or foam. They help pry the food loose from the dishes, thus mak ing it possible for the water to wash it away. Detergents also help retard film formation, so your dishes, glassware, and silverware will be bright and sparkling clean. REFLECTIONS From Fage 3 day when Weaver and Biltmore played to a tie at Weavervillc. This snapped a perfect record which Weaver had kept going for several years. Bob who now owns and operates Highland Farm here, played end on that team which went on from there to win the title again when Mars Hill slipped up and upset Biltmore. —R— Black Mountain took on the appearance of the Frozen North last week when an ice storm hit here. Windshields and high ways were coated with ice and traffic moved at a snail’s pace. Old timers still maintain that this has been the coldest and roughest winter on record for this part of the country. It’s a sure thing there are no flowers blooming around town as was the case during the last few years. —R— Charles E. Spencer, who finds time to do more work for the community than any one else, is editor of Jungle Capers, official bulletin of the Black Mountain Lions Club. In his latest edition Charlie pays tribute to a Black Mountain youth who was killed on Okinawa during World War II. Although this was written about James Landon Ragan it applies to all those heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice for their country in all the wars. Charlie savs: A SOLDIER OF THE LEGION We called him “Jimmie.” He was just another youngster — one in millions. First he was a child, then he seemed to grow by leaps and bounds. By and by, he was tall enough to join the navy, so he upped his age to meet his height and signed up. STAS ■ ‘ii i What some people take for granted, others are thankful for' That's why some people never find happiness, and other* never lose it! Years ago, a Teacher amared his con temporaries with the statement that a man's life consisteth not in the abund ance of the things which he possesseth." And His followers, through the centu ries, have discovered that only spiritual awareness can enable us to appreciate physical and material blessings. "I am come,” said this Jesus of Naxa reth. “that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” His Way of life, and the Truth He taught—these, then, are the foundation* of an abundant lilt. The churches of our community are today's teachers of His Way and His Truth. Some people may take thoce churches for granted, but you can be thankful for them.
