Mrs. Reid is the former Miss Nancy Lanier, granddaughter of Sidney Lanier. Support The Cancer Drive 1 I Former Black Mountain Pupil Receives Honor Nancy Ormond, a former pupil ^ the Black Mountain schools whose poems have appeared twice in the Poet s Corner of the creative writing1 group, was one of the 31 winners of awards of the North C arolina high school creative writ ing contest which the North Car olina Educational Committee has sponsored for three years. Top ranking stories, poems and essays were entered. The winning entries were chosen from 546 outstanding manuscripts, repre senting 54 North Carolina high schools. Forty-seven students re ceived honorable mention. Students in the high schools of Swannanoa Valley should let this be the incentive for them to strive to win not only in the contest sponsored by the creative writing group, but also, in the next com position committee contest of the North Carolina Educational As sociation.
