Mr. and Mrs. Otis Vess had as guests last Sunday Mrs. Mess's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hudgins and daugh ters, Janet and Martha of Black Mountain. Mrs. Mills Hoyle and son of Bethlehem near Old Fort, visited Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ownbey last Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. George Moore and children, Wayne ami Linda, who have been visiting Mrs. Moore’s father, Lewis Elliott, and other relatives in this section, left for their home in Long Beach, Calif., last Monday. Miss Sarah Kirby and Mrs. Hooker of Black Mountain visited Mrs. T. W. Kirby and son, Paul, at Kirby’s corner last week end. Mrs. Carrah Burgin, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs. Nora Elliott of this section, spent the week end with her relatives in Forest City. Mrs. Floyd Vess and children. Wanda, Earl, Teddy and Emmett, ■of Swannanoa visited Mr. and Mrs. Vess’ uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Elliott last Mon day. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Ledbetter, Mrs. Elliott and son, Yewitt, and Aunt Mae Gilliam attended the funeral services of Mr. Burgin Dimsdale at Broad River church last Wednesday afternoon. Frank Vess, Lloyd Elliott, Hoover Hall and Yewitt Elliott went swimming in the lake on Bald Mountain last Sunday after noon. Ralph Ownbey left for radio school in Clarksville, Ga., last Monday. R. G. Ownbey and family are building a new home on their farm. The dry weather seems to be driving the rattlesnakes off the mountains. The Elliott family have killed four rattlers recently, and many more have been reported killed in this section. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Carson and son, John, and Mr. and Mrs. Gord on dreenwood and son, Buddy, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Ledbetter and Mrs. Davis at the Broad River Market last Saturday.
