Burnett last week were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Calloway and their sons, William and Edward, of Salisbury, Md. Mrs. Ford Burns, manager of the Baptist Book Store, Kansas City, Mo., was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jollay during the Bible conference which ended at noon Wednesday. Elsie Pittman, Old Fort, was the week end guest of Betty Alli son. Mr. and Mrs. George Reems and son, E. F. Reems, Greenville, S. C., en route to visit Mrs. Reem’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shelton in Marshall, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hollifield during the "lor. *and Mrs. Walter P. Binns, Liberty, Mo., were guests last week of Mrs. Edith Beam and her sister, Mary Ward, at “Galax Lodge.” Friends and neighbors of Mrs. Cecil M. Perry sympathize with her in the illness of her father, R. C. Chapin, who is in a New port News, Va., hospital. Mrs. Cordie King and daughter, Mrs. Prank Walls, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jollay Tues day. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Turner have taken the Love apartment in Black Mountain. Mr. Turner has accept ed a position with the Great At lantic & Pacific Tea company. Dr. B. A. Bowers preached at both sendees at the First Baptist church, Hendersonville, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cole and children, Robin, Eddie and \ ir ginia, arrived Friday from Baton Rouge, La., and will make their home at “Dream’s End" while their parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Perkins, are in Smithfield. Mr. and Mrs. James Yates, Dunn, N. C., spent a while visit ing Mr. Yate's aunt, Mrs. Perry Morgan, Saturday. Harvey Lee Akers, Portsmouth, Va., is visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Stepp, on the Black Mountain highway. The Rev. Tom E. Walters ar rived Monday for a vacation with his family at “Kozy Korner" cot tage. Mrs. Walters and David have been here since June 1 and will return to their home in Fay etteville at the close of the sea son. Mr. Walters is our mission ary in the New South River As sociation, and was at one time pastor of the Ridgecrest Baptist church. Owen Moran, pastor of the North Little Rock, Ark., Baptist church, returned home to day after a stay of two weeks at his cottage, “Idlewild, l,n Orchard road. He is a former pastor of the Ridgecrest church. A delegation of 22 accompanied him to Ridgecrest from the North Little Rock church. The Rev. Cecil M. Perry and his son, William, are in Washing ton, D. C., where Mr. Perry is supplying the pulpit of the C on stitution Avenue Baptist f™rcl1 for a couple of Sundays- Y\illiam is sight-seeing and visiting his uncle in the capitol city. Friends of the J. J. Johnson family regret to learn of the ill ness of Mrs. Johnson in an Ashe ville hospital where she went last week for a surgical operation. At last report she was improving and it is hoped she will soon be at home again. Misses Annie Jo and Ada Law had as their guest last week Miss Couzin Law of DeLand, Fa. Miss Glada Boyles, Fort Meade, Fla., has purchased a lot on Moore cricle and already is building a nice cottage on it. Joe Hollifield is the contractor and builder. Mrs. Kent and the children have been here all summer en joying the sky line scenery front their porch at “Pine Lodge.” Mary Ann Peebles, Pentagon Building, with the Air Force, Washington, spent the week end here. Miss Peebles was one time reservation clerk at the assemb ly. She plans to build a home on Patience avenue in the near future. Mrs. Lena S. Barger, Moores- 1 ville, is erecting a nice cottage on a lot she purchased some time ago on Patience avenue near Rat tle Snake Knob. It will cost close to twenty thousand dollars. l)r. and Mrs. C. H. Bolton, Nashville, Tenn., have been guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Morgan for two weeks. Dr. Bolton is the executive secretary of the Baptist Foundation with offices in Nashville. They left for home Wednesday. The Rev. Thomas T. Holloway, Dallas, Texas, spent several days last week with his family at the home of Mrs. Holloway’s mother, Mrs. W. W. Lawton Sr. Mrs. Holloway, Thomas, and Sarah have been here since June. Mr. Hollo way is district representative of the American Bible Society. One hundred fifty Royal Am bassadors and their leaders from several states, spent last week at Camp Ridgecrest under the lead ership of the Rev. J. Ivyloy Bis hop, R. A. secretary, Birmingham, Ala. The big annual music confer ence is in full swing with about fifteen hundred in attendance. It is the last conference of the sea son and one that is always en joyed. The public is invited to the sessions and especially to the closing meeting on Wednesday when a trained choir of more than a hundred voices will give Handel’s “The Messiah.” Dr. High C Moore taught both men and woman Sunday in a combined class session in the church auditorium. Dr. Moore is eagerly sought after as a Bible teacher, not only by our summer visitors but by his neighbors and friends here at Ridgecrest. It gives him unbounded joy to teach God’s word at every opportunity. He has taught men and women the Bible in city, town and country churches for more than a half century. He has taught the Bible on the radio to millions in this co“ntry a[id to thousands if not millions in other lands by the printed word. The event was given by their sons and daughters in celebration of their golden wedding anniversary and Mrs. Craven's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Craven were married at the First Presbyterian church in Durham. N. C., on Aug. 6, 1901. At the time of their marriage, Mr. Craven was a professor of rhemistry and physics at Greens aoro college, Greensboro, and later served for 11 years as city super ntendent of schools in New Bern, rhey moved to Lakeland in 1925 .vliere Mr. Craven was a repre sentative of the Hanchett Bond company of Chicago until re cently. He is now retired. Mrs. "raven was the former Miss Alice Holman, a teacher in the Durham schools. The Cravens have three daugh ers, two sons, and seven grand children.
