The meeting opened with the n \ R. ritual, the American Creed , i by Mrs. Goodson, followed by (he singing of our national anthem. \ uitors welcomed by the re t were: Mrs. Roy Cagle, state chairman of American Indians, of the Ruth Davidson chapter; Mrs. V V McGuire, regent of the Ruth Davidson chapter, Asheville; Miss Mary Greenlee of the Mary Slo cumb chapter, Mooresville; Miss Josephine Sanford, Old Fort, and Mrs. A. M. Dula Sr., Black Moun 18 During the business meeting, plans were made to take the dishes bought by the chapter to Cr ssnore. A thanks offering was taken for the Valley Forge bell tower. The time of meeting was changed from 7:30 p. m. to 3:00 p. m. Mrs. Roy Cagle was introduced by Mrs. H. E. Dysart. Mrs. Cagle Rive an interesting and instruc ts talk on the legends, customs and work of D.A.R. among the different tribes of Indians in America. Refreshments were enjoyed dur ing the social hour. Members present were Mesdames L. J. Dawkins, F. S. Bradsher, H. E. Dysart, A. E. Allamach, and Misses Mary Burgin. Buckner of West Asheville were Sunday g’uests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Moore. €)$< w. R. PATTON Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p. in. in Swannanoa Methodist church for W. R. Pat ton, 74, retired dairyman and farmer who died Sunday after noon. The Rev. T. A. Groce, the Rev. Troy Lunsford and the Rev. Paul Cassell officiated and burial was in Pine Grove cemetery. Pallbearers were Cecil Red mond, Perry Penley, Jimmy and Walter Cooper, Kent Hampton, and Carroll Harbin. The body lay in state at the church for an hour prior to the service. Patton, a native of Swannanoa section, was a member of Azalea Methodist church. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Essie Whitaker Patton, and a number of nieces and nephews. HONORED AT COLLEGE Miss Jody Atkins, junior at Appalachian State Teachers col lege, has been invited to join the Vernician Literary society, an honorary society on the campus. She was also elected vice-pres ident of the Varsouviana club last week. She is a member of the Young Women’s Christian assoc iation and the Modern Dance club. TRIP EAST AND NORTH Miss Emma Reid Southworth returned Saturday night from a visit to the eastern part of the state and Williamsburg, Va. Miss Caroline Hall acompanied her on the trip, but went on to Wash ington, D. C., for a visit before returning home. CLASS OFFICER Miss Doris Blankenship, Black Mountain, has been elected pres ident of the junior Sunday school class at Blue Mountain college for the first semester.
