Mrs. John Smith of Tunnel road underwent surgery at Vic toria hospital last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Wilder of Haw Creek road are the parents of a new son born Nov. 27 at St. .Joseph’s hospital. Oscar Lewis Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Lewis of Bull Mtn. road, who has been seriously ill at his home, has returned to Tusculum college, Greeneville, Tenn., where he is a junior. Mrs. Edward Henderson is still confined to her home due to ill Mrs. S. E. Webber of 202 Governors View road gave a party for her daughter, Brenda Kaye, in honor of her fifth birthday. Prizes were won by True Love and Lona Green. Many lovely gifts were presented to the young guest of honor. A color scheme of white and yellow was used in the deco rations. A white Irish linen table cloth was used, which was centered with the lovely white and yellow birthday cake. Balloon favors were presented to each guest. Cake and ice cream were served to: True and Butch Ix>ve, Gary Joe and Rosemary Love, Ann Hoff man, Lona Green, and Sarah Jean Anderson. Mrs. E. E. Lave assisted in serving. Jr., of West Ashe ville, and Mrs. Floyd, mother of Mrs. Robinson of Whiteville, N, C„ were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Allison of upper Grassy Branch road. ^ Miss Alma Allison of upper Grassy Branch road has returned from a two-months’ vacation trip to Detroit, Mich. Elmer Webber, patient at Oteen hospital, spent Thanksgiving with his family on Governors View road. Members of the Grassy Branch 4-11 Club met in the home of Mrs. Reuben Clark Saturday, Dec. 1. Mrs. Dennis Glass, president, was in charge of the meeting. Plans were made for their Christ mas party to be held in the home of Mrs. J. J. Shuford. Miss Barb ara Dillingham, former Barnards ville 4-H member but now of Grassy Branch club, was presented an achievement award for the county’s best canning project in 1951. The honors were presented by assistant county agent Hall Reynolds. Fred W'hitfield, N. C. State college extension forestry specialist for Western North Carolina, lectured the members during the field trip in the woods near Mrs. Clark’s home. Other members present were: Mildred Clark, Patty Glass, Ann Glass, Betsy Stone, Linda Shuford, Ann Stone, Marie Clark, Jack Clark, Tommy Clark, Bill Clark, Ray Glass, Lolita Brown, William Glass, Kathleen W'hitfield, Rich ard Whitfield, Ralph Gossett and Miss Dillingham. The next reg ular meeting will be held Jan. 5 in the home of Mrs. Ruth Stone. MRS. M. \V. WADDELL Funerai services for Mrs. M. W. Waddell, 48, who died Thurs day night, Nov. 29, at her home on Buckeye Cove road after a long illness, were held Saturday at 4 p. m. in the home. The Rev. T. A. Howard officiated. A second service was held Sun day afternoon in Alto, Ga., Mrs. Waddell’s home before she moved to Swannanoa 18 years ago. The rites were held in Mount Zion Methodist church. Dotson The attendance is picking up at Broad River again and the spirit was the best last Sunday it has been in a good while. We are now working on our Christmas program and the child ren are doing fine. The Rev. Mr. Dotson brought a wonderful message last Sunday morning at Broad River, and another good one at Stone Moun tain Sunday night. He now preaches at Stone Mountin, first Sunday night and third Sunday mornings. Stone Mountain is also getting up a Christmas program. We are anxious to see both of the programs. We regret that John Ollis is very ill. We pray that if it is the Lord’s will, he will recover soon. We wish to say “thanks again” to Aunt Annie Wright for a good dinner last Sunday. Also to Mr. and Mrs. Willie Hudgins for a good supper. DINNER GUESTS Mrs. Belle Hamilton had as dinner guests last Thursday evening Mrs. Leon Burnette and daughter, Joan, of Chapel Hill, and Mrs. Ann Maddox. CATAWBA VIEW BAPTIST CHURCH The regular service was held Dec. 2, by the pastor, the Rev. M. M. Hooper. Guests at the morning service were Mr. and Mrs. David son from Rutherfordton. They were visiting their sister and brother-inlaw, Mr. and Mrs. Whit side. Mrs. Whiteside joined Cat awba View Baptist church. The church was very glad to receive her as a new member. The fifth Sunday, Dec. 30, the missionaries are planning to give a program or service called $100 Day Service. The Wings of Songs from Knox ville, Tenn., will give a recital Dec. 9, at 2:30 p. m., at Catawba View Baptist church. Admission is free. Everyone is invited to at tend.
