NORTH I FORK l NEWS OR MOUNTAIN VIEWS By Oden Walker Mr. and Mrs. Marion McIntosh “stepped across the rdige'' the other evening for a visit, and while we were talking of this and that, Marion related the following incident: Our little friend, Louis*1 Weaver, daughter of Yorn Weaver, had a pet duck which she cher ished a great deal. On Thanks giving day a dog got after the duck and chased her under the house. The light was had under the house, and the duck was go ing with speed. She ran into the tines of a pitchfork that was left there. She wasn't killed outright, hut so great was the wound, her intestines were dragging on the ground. Louise loved her duck, and couldn't stand for any of her folks to put her pet out of it's misery, so she gathered her up and took her the short distance to Mr. Mclntoshes’s home. Marion inspected the wound ami decided something could be done. First he got germicides and cleansed the dragging intestines, after care fully putting them back inside, he held the flesh and skin to gether, while his wife did an embroidery job. They kept the pet in a box for a few days so she couldn’t jump around, and the wound could heal — Ixjuise is again romping with her duck, which is healthy, happy and fat Mr. McIntosh has not recovered from the horrible experience he had last summer when a horse kicked him in the fare. He has lost the use o, one eye. Marion is selling Stark's fruit trees and nursery stock. Mrs. McIntosh is selling men’s and ladies' hosiery. Last week we had a delightfully warm and friendly letter from Gordon and Garnet Greenwood. They are doing fine, but mildly homesick for Black Mountain. They are keenly appreciative of the hill billies' efforts at journalism. "Uncle” Tommie Morris had a serious accident last week. He was off-bearing at a woodsaw and started to pull down the slats and debris from under the saw, pot too close, and pot a deep, ug.y pash across his hand. Hospitaliza tion was required. We notice the mention of our ubiquitous newspaper in the Wash ington, I>. C. Times-Herald. Santa Claus whispered to us that Edna Earl Morris is getting an electric range for Christmas. With the assistance of Woodrow and ’Gin Bropst, we butchered a pig last Saturday. Darius Patton had the bulldozer work all last week at the Double Cabin place. We haven’t been over there lately, but they must have nearly all the thickets in the hol low pushed down by this time. Wayne Roberts is helping with this work.
