Christmas program Friday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p. m. at the lurch. Members of the Allen High school glee club presented a program of Christmas carols of foreign lands. A short Christ mas message was given by the pastor, the Rev. Paul Casseil, us ing as his text Luke 1: 20-38. Mrs. Iionald Maney gave a read ing which was entitled “The Great Rushing of Wings.” To bring the meeting to a close the group enjoyed an old fashioned carol sing. Mrs. V. H. Buckner offered the closing prayer. A so cial hour followed which was held in the recreation room. Mrs. ( harles 11. Holden Jr., president, was in charge of the decorations. Mrs. H. ,). Buckner, Mrs. Carl Noblett and Mrs. Charles Webb were on the program committee. Mrs. Ceorge Young was in charge of the refreshments. Approximate ly , I members of the church at tended the program. The Methodist Youth Fellow ship of Bethesda church will pre sen' “The Light of the Ages”, a Christmas program of story and song, at the church Sunday night, Lee. 23, at 8:00 o’clock. The scene of the “Nativity” will be used. Those taking part sare as follows: the prohpet, Edward Swann; the narrator, Ingry Nob lett; the call of today, Clara Webb; the chartaeters for the manger scenes tableau are, Mary, Billie Deaton; Joseph, Winky P o we r s ; shepherds, William Smith, Eddie Noblett and Donald Maney Jr.; the light bearers, Jay SA VE! Club Has Christmas Party “Christmas Decorations and Gifts’’ were very interestingly discussed and demonstrated at the December meeting of the Home Demonstration Club Mon day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Charles Clevenger. Mrs. Smith of Asheville, assistant home demon stration agent, was in charge of the program. During the social hour gifts were exchanged and re freshments served by Mrs. Clev enger and Mrs. G. V. Stepp, co hostesses. Those attending were: Mrs. John Melton, Mrs. Finley Stepp, Mrs. W. T. Miller, Mrs. L. C. •Jumper, Miss Mary McKay, Mrs. Morris Gardner, Mrs. Herman Holdway, Mrs. A. VV. Hemphill. Mrs. W. D. Holt, Mrs. Clifford Jones, Miss Helen Miles, Carolyn Clevenger, Mrs. Smith and the hostesses. Ernest Miller, Isabelle Miller, Charles Cooper and Betty Jo Cooper, also Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Shepherd. The church choir will be known as the Christmas Choir. The Sunday school of Bethesda Methodist church will held their Christmas tree and program Sat urday, Dec. 22, at 7:30 p. m. The beginner, primary, junior and in termediate classes will participate in the program. A treat and gift will be given each child. The C. W. Francy Post No. 70 of the American Legion, held their regular monthly meeting Thursday, Dec. 13, in the post home on Black Mountain highway The executive committee reporteu that plans had been completed for the appropriation of funds for Christmas baskets for the needy. Hightlight of the meeting was the return of three veterans, Arthur Lytle of Oakley from the Aleutian Islands; Russell White side of Asheville and Ray Penley of upper Grassy Branch road, both hack from Korea, who gave most interesting talks on their exper iences. The membership com mittee reported 731 members now in good standing. The deadline for dues is Dec. 31. The Legion would like to call this to the at tention of all their members who have possibly let it slip their minds. Vernon E. Clayton, post commander, was in charge of the meeting. Mrs. Baxter fender Jr., or Kensington drive in Beverly Hills, gave a party in her home for her son, David, in honor of his ninth birthday. Cowboy decora tions were used and refreshments served to the following guests: Jane Carruth, John Shirey, Cye Jones, Katey Jones, Kay Radford, Joyce Warren, Dean Fender, Alice Fender, Bobbie Fender, Don Cur ry, Bobbie Curry, Ray Davis, Carl Conley, Jack Reagon and Rodney ^ Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wolfe of Black Mountain highway, have as their guests over the holidays their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Wilson and son, Carl, from Kennewick, Wash ington. Also their granddaughter, Mrs Frank Boies and great granddaughter, Jackie Boies, from E! Paso, Texas. Mr and Mrs. Arthur E. Stotes bury and son, Keith, of old Hav/ Creek road will spend the holi days with Mr. Stotesbury’s par ents in Plymouth, N. C. Mrs. Ann Stallard of Craig circle is now a patient at the Western N. C. Sanatorium in room 209 Visits and cards from friends will be greatly appreciated by AlMrs James Thomas has re turned to her home on Craig circle from a local hospital. Her condition is reported very good at this time. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Corbett of Oteen Park place have left for Mississippi for a visit. Morris Hogan, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Hogan of Church road, is home from Chapel Hill for the holidays._ CHRISTIAN CHURCH SERVICES The Black Mountain Christian church will hold its Christmas services Sunday, Dec. 23, at 3:30 o’clock in the Billy Burnett mem orial room of the First Baptist church The Christmas food baskets will be filled at that time. LEAVE FOR FLORIDA Mr. and Mrs. June Glenn Sr. left Thursday for Florida where they plan to spend the Christmas holidays with Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Bowlin of Tampa, Fla. Also mak ing the trip were Mr. and Mrs. June Glenn Jr., and two daugh ters, Marsha and Emily. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Sr. will remain in Florida for an indefinite stay. The others plan to return to Rlack Mountain the first of the year. 10 DAY VISIT Mrs. Jack Shaw will leave the first of the week for a 10 days’ visit with Mrs. Mosby Hogge and Mrs. Helen H. Johnson in Rich mond, Va. Lakey Gap Chapel Christmas Program The Lakey Gap Chapel will present its Christmas program Monday evening, Dec. 24, at 5 p. m. Mrs. Robert R. Clements and Mrs. William L. Clements are in charge of the program. A cordial invitation is extended to the public to attend. CHAPEL SERVICE TONIGHT Regular services are to be con ducted at Lakey Gap Chapel to night (Thursday) at 7:30 o’clock with preaching by the pastor.
