MONTREAT The Rev. John R. Williams, pas tor, preached at the morfiing wor ship service in the Presbyterian church on Sunday, March 30. He began a series of four sermons on the same text, Matt. 21, the 50th and 51st verses. This Sun day the subject was “God Re vealed in The Cross.” Next Sunday is Palm Sunday. Holy Communion will be observed at the morning worship service. Wednesday prayer meetings were at 4:00 p.m. in the sun parlor of Assembly Inn and at 7:15 in Gaither chapel. The pastor was in charge of both meetings. The executive board of the Wom en of the Church met Tuesday, April 1, at 4 p.m. in the home of the president, Mrs. J. P. Will iams, on Assembly drive. Circle No. 1, Mrs. J. Rupert McGregor, chairman, will meet at the home of Mrs. McGregor on r Thursday, April 10, at 4:00 p.m. Mrs. Ira Holt .is co-chairman of this circle. Circle No. 2, Miss Alice Hardie, chairman, will meet with Miss Hardie at her home on Virginia road on Tuesday, April 8, at 4:00 p.m. Mrs. Keith Townsend is co chairtnan of this circle. The Business Women’s Circle, Miss Betty Maxwell, president, will meet Monday night, April 7, at Assembly Inn for a short bus iness session and then adjourn to attend “Ladies Night” with the Men of Montreat. The Women of the Montreat church gathered at 6:30 for a din ner meeting and program on March 25 in Assembly Inn dining room. Husbands and friends were present also. The large T-shaped table was beautifully decorated by Mrs. Keith Townsend and Mrs. Thomas Spence and their commit tee. Hundreds of jonquills were used on the table. A color scheme of yellow and shades of purple and lavender were beautifully car ried out. Little butterflies, indica tive of spring, fluttered on candles and down the center of the tables. Mrs. Geza Soos was the principal after-dinner speaker. The new of ficers for the coming year, with Mrs. John Payne Williams, pres ident, were installed by Dr. Ru pert McGregor. Mrs. W. J. Gam mon, the retiring president, pre sided at the dinner until she handed the gavel to the new pres ident. Mrs. Williams then an nounced the circle chairmen as: Mrs. J. Rupert McGregor, Circle 1, and Miss Alice Hardie, Circle 2. Miss Betty Maxwell was elected by the Business Women’s Circle as president. Mrs. McGregor and Miss Hardie announced the mem bers of their circles. The annual business session, Mrs. Gammon, presiding, was held be fore the dinner at 5:00 p.m. in the sun parlor of the Inn. A group of friends of Mrs. Crosby Adams made a pilgrimage to her grave in Piney Grove cem etery and took flowers there from her home garden for her birthday, March 25. Mrs. John Payne Williams re presented her alma mater, Lake Erie college, Pinesville, Ohio, in the academic procession and in auguration of the new president of Queens college, Charlotte, Dr. Charlton C. Jernigan, Saturday morning, March 29. Those who ac companied Mrs. Williams to Char lotte for the exercises were J. P. Williams, Mrs. Townsend, a grad uate of Queens college, and the Rev. O. F. Yates. Mr. Yates visited Mrs. Robson of Davidson, a sister of the late Mrs. Yates. The Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Lm ton, missionaries under the Pres byterian Church, U. S., board of world missions to Korea and re cently returned to this country, are in Montreat for a furlough and are in their home on Kentucky road. . . . Miss Alice Hardie of' Virginia road had as her guests this past week her nephew and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas G. Hardie, of Baltimore, Md. They have been living in Paris, France, for the past three years but expect to make their home in New Jersey. Ray Francis Fernandez of New York City joined his family last week in a visit with Mrs. Fern andez’ parents', Dr. and Mrs. L. J. Coppedge, at their home on Grevbeard road. Dr. Redhead, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, Greensboro, and Mrs. Redhead spent a short time in Montreat last week to arrange for the building of their summer home on Virginia road. Dr. and Mrs. J. Rupert Mc Gregor have moved into their new home on Assembly drive. They are now busy landscaping then grounds. Mrs. Andrew Dale of Columbia, Tenn., spent a few days in Mon treat this past week. Mrs. Dale has a summer home on Greybeard rc ,d.
