Betty Mehaffey, Zelda Teems, Barbara Sircey and Venna Mor is, a visitor. Mrs. Walter Koll of Overlook road gave a party for her son, Kenneth, May 15, honoring his first birthday. Games were played an! prizes were won by Trudy Love and Steve Shytle. Refresh ments of lemonade, cake, ice civam and individual candy bask ets were served to Dicky, Garry and Lena Green, Trudy and Butch Love, Steve and Jimmy Shytle, Richard King and Merle Love. Miss Barbara Sircey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Sircey of upper Grassy Branch road, has returned from Winston - Salem where she was employed. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Shackleford of Craig circle had as their guest Dewey Sharpe of Winston-Salem, brother of Mrs. Shackleford. Mrs. C. L. Bailey and new daughter, Faye Lynn, have re turned to their home on Craig circle from Victoria hospital. Clifford Jeffries of Craig circle was admitted to Oteen VA hos pital last week. J. R. Thompson of Craig circle spent this past week end in Greenville, S. C., attending the Armed Forces Day celebration. Mrs. W. W. MlcPherson of Craig circle is on the sick list. Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Gregg of Swannanoa are now residing on Craig circle. H. A. Forster of Craig circle has left for California to take up residence there. His wife is ex pected to join him there next month. Mrs. Vincenza Migliorini of Craig circle left for Chicago last Saturday due to the serious illness of her brother. Mrs. S. E. Webber and children, Sammy and Brenda Kaye, of 202 Governors View road left for Clin ton, Tenn., due to the illness of Mrs. Webber’s mother-in-law. Mrs. D. A. Jones and grandson, Jerry, of lower Grassy Branch road are visiting relatives in Huntsville, Ala. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hipps of Cornelia, Ga., and Mrs. Jerry Knapp of Atlanta, Ga., were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Sharp Is New President The Asheville Branch of the Na tional League of American Pen Women held its May meeting Sat urday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Russell Norburn, 54 Hilltop road, Biltmore Forest. After a short business meeting the pres ident, Mrs. R. R. King, installed the following new officers: pres ident, Mrs. Thomas S. Sharp; vice president, Mrs. James A. Crawford; treasurer, Mrs. Harvey Hand; recording secretary, Miss Marguerite Evans; and corres ponding secretary, Miss Elizabeth Fields. Mrs. G. W. Meade, program chairman, introduced the speaker, Mrs. L. D. Hayman of Black Mountain, who on account of the illness of Mrs. James A. Craw ford, very graciously substituted for her, giving Mrs. Crawford’s prepared program, “Manuscript Markets.” She also displayed mag azines sent by Mrs. Crawford so that the members might know the magazines that each prefer. Mrs. Crawford has been quite successful in having her poems published in the best national magazines. Mrs. Hayman also contributed toward the program by giving her experience in hav ing poems published. She read by request her lovely nature poem, “Winter”, from the Country Poet. Miss Sarah Dippenhaver and Mrs. E. A. Ogle spoke on the publish ing of music and Mrs. Lowell Wright on exhibiting and mark eting her paintings. The entire program was most helpful and inspiring. The tea table was ex quisite in its appointments. Mrs. R. R. King, now state president, presided at the punch bowl and Mrs. G. W. Meade poured coffee. The next meeting will be a cov ered dish luncheon at Mrs. Lowell Wright’s home, 81 Macon avenue, the third Saturday in June.
