A companion bill increased the amount of income a person may have and still be eligible for pens ion payments in non service-con nected disability and death cases. Under the old limits, an other wise eligible veteran or widow having an income in excess of $1,000 annually, without depend ents, or $2,500 with dependents could not qualify for pension. These limits have been raised to $1,400 and $2,700, respectively. VA said all applicants for pens ions whose claims were denied under the old income limitations and who believe they may qualify under the new limitations will have to file new claims for re consideration on or after the ef fective date of July 1, 1952. The announcement was made today by Louis V. Sutton, pres ident of CP&L. He said S Paul Vecker, a vice president, will de vote his efforts toward securing new industries. Full responsibility for sales activities of the company were shifted to Hugh G. Isley, the gen eral sales manager. “The company wishes to place greater emphasis on its efforts to bring new industries into the enlarged area in the Carolinas. consisting of approximately 30, 000 square miles, which the com pany now serves,” Sutton said in a letter to all department heads. “This seems to be of the greatest importance to the company and to the area. “In order to more effectively accomplish what is desired, Mr. S. P. Vecker, a vice president of the company, has been placed in charge of the company’s indus trial and agricultural development. In addition to his principal duties in securing new industries, Mr. Vecker will assist the president from time to time in special as signments of importance. “Mr. Hugh G. Isley, our gen eral sales manager, has been placed in full charge of our sales department and its activities and will report direct to the president of the company."
