V No Hard Times In Black Mountain, N. C Freight and Ticket Receipts In creased for month of June over month of June last year $5,000. This is one month’s increase. If Asheville, Charlotte or Raleigh had within 2Vi miles of their Public Square what Black Mountain has they would "hollow" so loud that an ordinance would have to be passed to keep them from 'hollow inn " ing. Black Mountain, N. C., is sixteen miles East of Asheville, on the main line of the Southern Railway, offers the very best inducements for real estate in vestments more than any other town in North Caro lina. The reason why we make this statement is this: It takes people to make values, and we have in the radius of two to three miles of Black Mountain the official headquarters of over two million people. _THIS SECTION IS BLEST WITH THE HEADQUARTERS OF GREAT ECCLESIASTICAL ORGANIZATIONS. THE PRESBY TERIANS AT MONTREAT IS HEADQUARTERS OF THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND PEOPLE. THE BAPTIST AT RIDGECREST IS THE HEADQUART ERS OF TWO MILLION. THE Y.M.C.A.'S AND Y.W.C.A.'S AND YOUNG PEOPLE'S STUDENT MOVEMENT, THE HEADQUARTERS OF AP PROXIMATELY FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND AT BLUE RIDGE. THE METHODIST COLONY CO., IS ALSO HERE AND THE EPISCOPALIANS RECENTLY HAVE BEEN GIVEN TWO HUNDREDS ACRES OF LAND ON WHICH THEY PROPOSE TO LOCATE HERE A SUMMER COLONY. WE ALSO HAVE A SCENIC RAILWAY FROM BLACK MOUNTAIN TO MOUNT MITCHELL, THE HIGHEST PEAK IN EASTERN AMERICA, 6711 FEET HIGH. Now after stating the above facts will you not agree with me that there is something doing at Black Moun tain and vicinity. We have more people at Montreat and Blue Ridge than we have ever had, not withstand ing the war, and the whole section is alive with activ ity. You feel the spirit of push and enterprise as soon as you get off at the station. This is a portion of an ad that appeared in the Asheville Citizen on July 24, 1915. It was sent to the News office by Mrs. Deward Glenn of Black Mountain. BAPTIST CIRCLE MEETS WITH MRS. J. L. POTTER The Lucy Wright circle of the First Baptist church met last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. L. Potter, with Mrs. W. H. Tipton, chairman, presiding. Mrs. W. T. Miller opened the meeting with prayer. Mrs. P. P. Arnold was in charge of the pro gram on “Africa.” She was as sisted by other circle members. A social hour followed with re freshments served by the hostess. Those present were: Mrs. W. D. Hyatt, Mrs. W. C. Allison, Mrs. Florence Hudson, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Edna W U, Mrs. P. S. Glenn, Mrs. L. R. Thomas, Miss Ethel Simmons, Mrs. Augusta Brackett, Mrs. Marshall Mott, Mrs. C. W. Shumate, Mrs. Tipton, Mrs. Hattie Burgess, Mrs. W. E. Vernon, Mrs. Arnold, Mrs. Annie Kinsey, Mrs. Doug Hamby Sr., and Mrs. E. V. Gouge. —An editorial quip observes that everything in a modern home is controlled by the flick of a switch except the children. —No need worrying about find ing your station in life. Sooner or later someone is bound to tell you where to get off. —No matter how low in value the dollar may eventually fall, it will never fall as low as some people will stoop to get it, —After all, things are about equal.
