While there she visited Niagra
Falls, Canada, from there to Wash
ington, D .C., then to Annapolis,
Md., and then to Baltimore to visit
her son, Cecil Martin. She brought
C. E. Martin home with her for
a week.

lea, has been on vacation for a
week deer hunting.

Give Thanks
During this Thanksgiving sea
son, may each of us set aside one
portion of the day for prayer; one
part out of our daily routine to
remember our Maker and Giver of
all our blessings. It has been said
that “The family who prays to
gether stays together.” If this is
true, then the “nation who prays
together stays together,” but the
peace and understanding must take
root in the home.
I am reminded of a quotation by
Amelia Josephine Burr which
seems to fit the occasion:
“Sure it’s the same old riddle
To be puzzling kings and queens
Which are the things that matter
And which are the other things.”
Put those other things aside for
a while and concentrate on the
things that matter, and thank God
you are free to do it.

The W. B. Follard home on the
Montreat road was the scene of a
gay time Monday afternoon, when
Bill celebrated his sixth birthday
and Nancy her fourth, with a
party given by their mother.
The dining table was attractive
ly decorated with pink and laven
der streamers hanging from
above and fastened to the corners.
A large cake decorated in pink
and lavender centered the table.
Betty Pollard directed the chil
dren'in playing “pin the tail on the
donkey,” “nursery rhyme game,
and “putting clothespins in a bot
tle.”
At the close of the party the
hostess served ice craem, cup
cakes with a lighted candle on
each, punch and candy, in small
baskets. Those enjoying the oc
casion were: David Soloman, Kay
Francis Wright, Coleman Wright,
Leigh Brittain, Carol Jean Hall,
Sandra Carol White, Phillip Bern
hardt, Sharon Gail Adcock, Glen
da Beth Lakey, Gary Summey,
Patty Rayfield, Michael Rayfield,
Tommy Nesbitt, Kathleen Nesbitt,
Mrs. j. T. Simpson, Mrs. Woody,
Betty and the honorees. Mrs.
Simpson assisted Mrs. Pollard
with the serving.

The Hatch ’n Patch club met
Friday night in the home of Mrs.
Steve Uzzell for a business meet
ing and bridge.
Mrs. Carl Kerlee, Jr., a member
of the Junior Woman’s club, talked
on the children’s home in Greens
boro. Food and gifts were brought
by members for the club’s Christ
mas cheer baskets. Plans for the
Annual Christmas dinner to be
held Dec. 18, at the home of Mrs.
Harrie Danenhower were made.
A dessert course was served by
the hostess to Mrs. Gustova Brown,
