Hunnicutt and Mrs. Russell Riddle. A social hour fol lowed the meeting. Also present were Mrs. W. A. Plummer. Mrs. C. L. Wingo. Mrs. Robert Manev, Mrs. Laura Vanover, Miss Gladys Edwards, Mrs. Eugene Stockton, and Mrs. Bill Hensley. The Lucv Wright circle met Tuesday night at 7:30 in the home of Mrs. J. P. Bennett, with 16 members present. Mrs. Edith Ben nett presided and opened the meeting with prayer. After repeat ing the watchword in unison they sang “Send the Light.” Foyowing a short business session Mrs. George Penley had charge of the program. Mrs. J. P. Bennett led in prayer and Mrs. O. R. Hardiri gave the devotionals. Mrs. Harry. McPeters spoke on “Our Mission ary Opportunities” and Mrs. ren ley made a most interesting talk on “Is She A Baptist Devil?” The chairman closed the program with prayer. During the social hour that followed Mrs. Edith Bennett received a gift from her secret pal in honor of her birthday. Lovely refreshments were served by the hostess and her grand daughter, Miss Barbara Bennett, assisted in serving to others also present: Mrs. Martha Aiken. The Neale Young circle met Tuesday night, Jan. 6, at 7:30 at the home of Mrs. Walter Aiken with five old members and two new members present. Mrs. M. C. Prayer was led by Mrs. Claude Foster. Scriptures were given by Mrs. Foster. Mrs. W. H. Smith, Mrs. Wayne Smith, Mrs. Cline Messer, Mrs. Jim Wat kins, Mrs. Austin Andrews and Mrs. Edward Mumpower. The Rev. Wayne Smith, pastor, was in charge of the program using as his subject “The Purpose of Bap tism.” Mrs. Wayne Smith closed with prayer. Others present were Mrs. Ernest Rav, Mrs. Ray Nichols, Mrs. John Ogle, Jr., Mrs. Quincy Wood and Mrs. Lee Hutchins. Methodist W. S. C. S. Meeting The Woman’s Society of Christ tian Service of the Swannanoa Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. Lynn Gill Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 7:30 p.m. with Mrs. C. C. Allen and Miss Betty Tipton as co-hostesses. Mrs. Elmer Debruhl was in charge of the program en titled “Sowing Seeds of Kindness.” Taking part with Mrs. Debruhl was Mrs. C. W. Bates and Miss Laura Shuford. The business ses sion was presided over by Mrs. Haywood Farr, president. The study course to be given next month entitled “Understanding the Bible” was discussed. This study course will be given on five suc cessive Sunday night by the Rev. Mr. Bates. Plans were also made to send a package of clothing to our missionaries in Korea. A com mittee was appointed to obtain new equipment for the present nursery. Mrs. Bates and Mrs. Nel lie Wilkins will serve as members of the committee of which Mrs. Bill Wright was elected as chair man. Jan. • ■ ** 10:30 a.m. The meeting opened with a sermon by the moderator the Rev Everett K. Brown of Brvson City. The Lord’s Supper was served after the sermon with the Rev. Robert M. Hart of High lands N C.. and the local pastor, the Rev G. B. Talbot presiding. An important matter brought be fore the meeting was the election of commissioners to the forth-com ing General Assembly which will meet on June 4. 1953 at Mon treat. Birthday Party Teddy Tipton was honored with a birth'dav party at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Tipton last Wednesday afternoon. jan. 7. Teddy was six years old. They plaved several games in which Miss Elaine Martin re ceived the prize. After the open in" of presents, refreshments were served and pictures were taken at the table. Miss Imogene Cody has re turned to her home after several days in Mission hospital suffering from meningitis. She is much im proved. Miss Nancy Shope of Ricevillc road was an overnight guest of Miss Mary Ellen Blair last Thurs day. The Presbyterian Women of the Church met Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the home of Mrs. D. W. Harrison with Mrs. J. M. Buckner as assistant hostess. Mrs. C. S. Porter, president, presided and the meeting was opened with the de votionals on the story of Lydia given by Mrs. W. H. Also his inter pretation of the door decorations of the Chinese. Rev. Talbot closed his talk by singing the 23rd Psalm in Chinese. Ralph Ownbey, who has spent the last three weeks with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Ownbey, returned to his school in Clarks ville. Ga.. last Sunday afternoon. Miss Geneva Ownbey, daughter of Mrs. Lela Ownbey of Flat Creek, and Gerald Hopkins of Tennessee were married in South Carolina on Dec. 24. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Claude Marlowe of Flat Creek, a daugh ter, in St. Joseph’s hospital Jan. 8. church met at the parsonage with Rev. Wayne Smith and all went together to Rev. Condrey’s home. He received many birthday cards and contained $19.00 in money. Rev. Condrey was much pleased and thanked all taking a part. He has been a shut-in for about three months. Miss Ruth Cassida baked a birthday cake and refreshments were served by members of the church. Everyone had a delight ful time.
