Rally In Waynesville Thirty-four I.tlack Mountain young people of the Presbyterian Youth Fellowship and “Pioneers attended spring rallies on Easter Monday in Waynesville. The Presbyterian church at Waynesville was host to 250 Fel lowship members of the Asheville Presbytery, while the Hazelwood 1 church was the center of activities i for Pioneers, ages 12, 13, and 14. Other adults besides the pastor attending from the Black Moun tain church were: Mrs. C. C. My | ers, Mrs. J. H. Riddle, and Mrs. | H. D. Crawford, adult advisers; H. E. Barkley and Mrs. Frank ' Wade, who drove their cars. The Rev. W. W. Preston of Black Mountain presided at the 1 evening session in Waynesville and introduced the inspirational ' speaker, Chaplain James H. Skel ’ ton, from W. N. C. sanatorium, whose topic was “Christ, Missions, i and You.” Speaker before the Pioneer group in Hazelwood was the Rev. Paul Warren, pastor of the new Grace Covenant Presbyterian church in Asheville. Afternoon study sessions, re creation, business meetings, and a supper of picnic food taken along rounded out the day’s program. BROAD RIVER By Mrs. M. M. Mark Elliott and son, Newitt, and Walker Elliott visited Mark and Walker Elliott’s aged cous ins, Thomas and Sarah Davis, at their home on Upper Cedar Creek last Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Ray Ownbey is sick in Bat Cave hospital. Stanley Stroud and Leonard Plemmons, who are working in Detroit, Mich., are visiting their relatives on Broad River. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pierce of Asheville, visited Mr. and Mrs. Grover Ledbetter and grandma, Davis, last Sunday. The road builders have complet ed the grading to Bat Cave and moved out the shovel and other equipment. Another crew is com ing this way trimming the road banks. When that is done they will start in sub-grading. Miss Emma McGalliard of Mar ion spent the week-end with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Taylor, and her brother, Robert McGalliard. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nelon and children and Joe’s mother, Mrs. Nan Nelon, attended preaching service at Cane Creek church in Rutherford coun ty last Sunday. Sammie Lewis and Mickey Brown attended prayer meeting at Oteen Baptist church. Mrs. Mae Swann celebrated her birthday on Easter this year. Mrs. Swann also had a surprise for Easter: her son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Swann of Flori da, visited her. Mrs. Lewis Maloney of Black Mountain highway has returned home after spending the winter in Florida. Charles Stevens of Azalea vis ited Peggy Bryant in Durham over Easter holidays. An Easter party was given for Azalea people Friday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Lovin. Although it has been quite cool it’s not too cool for snakes to be coming out. This reporter and little dog, Tommie, killed a large adder snake in the yard last Thursday. We the C. M. Howies took din ner with the Thomas G. Halls Sunday and then we all visited Lawrence Howie at the W.N.C. sanatorium. Loyn Howie’s family and Charles Bryant’s family and Joyce and Judy Brooks-, all went to Sum mer Haven and enjoyed an Easter egg hunt Sunday afternoon. Loyn and his wife and Lawrence’s wife also visited Lawrence Howie in the late afternoon. Mr. Jim Adams of Bee Tree road and Mrs. R)ta Bank of Swannanoa were married in a quiet ceremony at the Rev. Jeffer’s at Black Mountain Saturday morning and went on a short motor trip to Ten nessee. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bowen of Bee Tree road and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Kilby and children visited Mrs. Bowen’s daughter, Mrs. Tom mie Wilson, Sunday afternoon. Mr. J. P. Gragg of the Black Mountain highway suffered a heart attack last week and has been in an Asheville hospital. He is improving. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Kilby visited the Thomas G. Halls Sunday after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Lewie Kilby and little son of Black Mountain vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Granville Kilby of Bee Tree road Sunday after noon. They also visited Mr. Lew ie’s father end mother in the late afternoon Sunday. The W. E. Duckett’s families celebrated Easter Sunday with a get-together family reunion din ner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Duckett on the Bee Tree road. Mrs. Stokley Brooks of Bee Tree road and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Brooks of Black Mountain high way visited Mrs. Stokley Brook's father in McDowell Sunday after noon. RED CROSS READY TO AID IN P.W. REPATRIATION The American Red Cross has offered its full resources of per sonnel and supplies to assist in repatriation of sick and wounded prisoners of war in Korea when the exchange of prisoners pro posed March 27 by the commun ists is effected. In the spring of 1952 the Red Cross completed training of a special team of workers to assist in repatriation. Some of these are now stationed in Japan and Ko rea. Others in the United States are prepared to leave for Korea immediately.
