The Woman’s Christian Temp erance Union met on Thursday afternoon with Mrs. W. L. Hatcher. Mrs. J. R. Hare, state president, Asheville, was the speaker for the occasion bringing to the group most recent happenings in the state in temperance work. Ridgecrest girlhood was never more lovely than on last Sunday night when a coronation and re cognition service was held in the church for members of the Doro thy Lawton Junior and Marion Cowherd Intermediate Girls’ aux iliaries of Woman’s Missionary Union. Six candelabra and quanti ties of white flowers and green ery made a beautiful setting for the program. The candidates for the various ranks came to the platform in groups. After being examined by Mrs. Elbert Hardin, they -were presented their various awards by Mrs. Charles Jollay, president of W. M. U. Music was furnished by Mrs. R. L. May at the organ. The following received recognition and awards: Maidens: Mae Peek, Faye Peek, Janice Peek, Barbara Jean Brad ley, Barbara Denny. As the congregation sang ■’All Hail The Power of Jesus’ Name,” the newly crowned queens lifted their crowns in reverence to the “Lord Of All.” Following the coronation these same girls gave a beautiful dram atization of the G. A. hymn, “We’ve A Story To Tell To The Nations.” Margaret and Shirley Denny were the readers for this part of the program. Candlelight, white-robed girls, others dressed to represent dif ferent nations, all kneeling with outstretched arms toward a light ed cross, formed an impressive tab "Ivoanttfie maytac automatic!" washes, rinses, spin-dries your clothes. Sat urdays. It will be closed on the other days. Miss Ruby Hall, librarian, said that the library “board” wanted to accommodate summer residents too in deciding the new hours, and many of them can get to town only in the morning. That was the reason for the decision to have the library open for two full days a week. LUCY WRIGHT CIRCLE HAS VARIED PROGRAM Mrs. J. L. Potter and Mrs. J. J. Johnson were hostesses to the Lucy Wright circle of the First Baptist church on Tuesday, May 12, at the home of Mrs. Potter, Briarbrook road. The meeting was presided over by the chairman, Mrs. W. H. A. rally at Enka church last Friday night. Those attending were: Martha and Barbara Jean Bradley, Barbara Denny, Evelyn, Mae and Faye Peek, Emily Hollifield, Doris Snypes, Margie Teague, and Anne Carr Perry. A happy surprise greeted the Hardins as they drove in to Hills of Home after taking G. A.’s to Enka. Beautiful music came from the shadows of the porch. When lights were turned on the singers were levealed as a youth choir from First Baptist church, Abbe ville, S. C., led by their director, Mrs. Madeline Gillespie. All these were spending the week-end with Mrs. Gillespie’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. 0. Sutherland at Ridge crest.
