Jimmy Milbee who is serving
with the Air Force in Alaska, has
been promoted to sergeant. Jimmy
has been in Alaska 22 months and
expects to return to the States in
September.
Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Wiggin are
now occupying the Miller cottage,
Blue Ridge road. Mrs. Wiggin is
the former Miss Mary Woodward
of Raleigh. They were married
June 13 in Raleigh. Mr. V iggin
is connected with Morgan Manu
facturing company.
Dr. Howard S. Hilley has re
turned from a business trip to the
eastern part of the state in the
interest of the Christian Assem
bly.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Allison spent
Sunday in Troutman with Mr. Alli
son’s family.
Mrs. Ernest Wilkinson and chil
dren have returned from a two
weeks' visit with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. T. W. Rothbrock in Ashe
ville, while Mr. Wilkinson was
away on a two weeks’ maneuver
at Fort McClellan, Ala.
Miss Peggy Morrow of the Bap
tist hospital, Winston-Salem, is
visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Morrow. Peggy expects
to be employed in this locality and
will make her home with her par
ents.
Miss Virginia Powell of Greens
boro, is visiting her sister, Mrs.
Ralph Humphries and family this
week. A niece, Sarah Jane Justus
of Brevard is also spending the
week with the Humphries.

make their home and are occupy

Jones for an indefinite period.
They will join Mr. Milbee in Mem
phis to make their home at a later

Miss Mary Ann MacKay has just
returned from a two weeks’ visit
in Peoria, 111., and Chicago. In
Peoria, she attended the 50th an
niversary celebration of the visit

Kay, who had been superintendent
of the association for 24 years be
fore coming to Black Mountain,
was guest of honor at a dinner
of 300 nurses, physicians, board
members, and friends, and was
feted at many teas and luncheons
by her friends.
Word has been received here
that Dr. Cyrus Houston of Con
cord, N. C., who has been hos
pitalized for the past three weeks
has improved and is nowr at his
home.

CLONTZ FAMILY HAS
REUNION ON SUNDAY
The annual reunion of the Clontz
family was held last Sunday at
the home of Mrs. Anna Clontz
Crag? of Swannanoa, Route 1.
There were 61 people present, in
cluding relatives from Old Fort,
Spindale, Forest City, and Colum
bia, S. C.
A picnic basket lunch was spread
on tables in the grove of oaks and
dogwood; an ideal and inviting
spot for the occasion.
It was the twenty-seventh re
union to be held, and the first one
to be held with Mrs. Gragg, the
others having been held in Old
Fort and Spindale.
The reunion was first started by
Mrs. Gragg in honor of her moth
er, Mrs. Annie Clontz, who passed
on several years ago, at the age
of 96. Since then it has been held
in honor of her children, seven in
number, of which there are three
living: Mrs. Gragg and two sis
ters. Mrs. C. E. Goode of Spindale,
and Mrs. James Godfrey of Forest
City.
Mrs. J. L. Mackworther and
daughter, Bonnie and Hope of Eau
Gollie, Fla., arrived in Oteen Wed
nesday. They plan to spend a
month. They are friends of Mrs.
Mae Swann.
The Rev. and Mrs. W. L. Bierer j
and Debbv, left Monday for two
weeks vacation in Miami, Fla.,
with Rev Bierer’s mother. The
Rev. H. M. Hocutt will supply
the pulpit at Oteen for those two
weeks.
Mrs. Sanders of Texas, mother
of Mrs. Marion Workman, has been
visiting her daughter and son-in
law, the Rev. Marion Workman,
pastor of Azalea Bethel Methodist
churches.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Stevens and
children and Mrs. Stevens’ moth
er left Sunday for a vacation in
New Mexico.
The Fidelious class of Oteen
Baptist church met Thursday night,
June 25 at the home of Mrs. Shir
ley Clayton in Oakley with 11
members present. Mrs. Mabel
Mungo read the devotional. Mrs.
Ethel King led the group in pray
er. The president presided over a
short business session. Minutes
were read and approved. The
treasurer’s report was read. The
visit to County Home was dis
cussed and Mrs. Ethel King agreed
to make plans for the class to
visit. The next meeting will be
with Mrs. Christiah Stepp of
Oteen. Refreshments were served
by hostess.
Mrs. Bob Calloway of Oakley
was honored with a household
shower Friday night given by her
mother, Mrs. Raleigh William.
