By Mrs. Royer Lewis Phone 6120 On Friday evening Diana Lewis on Patton Cove road visited Caro lyn Bryant on Moffitt Branch road. On Friday evening Mr. and M-s. Charles Stevens of Oteen visited Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Bryant on Mof fitt Branch road. On Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Phillips on Patton Cove road had a Pan American Pot demon stration given in their home by Mr. Anderson. Several couples attended. On Sunday Mrs. Lloyd Phillips and Son Roger spent the afternoon with her mother, Mrs. Ruth Bridg es and children of Swannanoa Heights. On Thursday afternoon Mrs. Alvin Lovin of Azalea had several friends in to visit Mrs. Paul Case and daughter Cookie. Ray Jenkins of Azalea, an em ployee of High Point Bending Chair company, has been ill for the last week at his home. Carolyn and Suzan Allen, grand children of O. L. Phillips on Pat ton Cove road, are visiting him and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Phillips and son Roger. Mrs. Lloyd Phillips and son Rog er, Suzan and Carolyn Allen on Patton Cove road, visited with Mrs. Boyd Barnwell on Tuesday afternoon. Theodore Royer Lewis was home to visit his mother Mrs. Gale Rhew and father, Theodore Lewis, and sisters and brothers, Clara Lewis, Linda Rhew, Samrnie and Wayne Lewis of Oteen. He is sta tioned in Cocoa, Fla. Clara Lewis spent Saturday night with Mrs. Marie Lewis and children, Linda, Dannie and David while Frank Lewis enjoyed a fish ing trip. Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Royer Lewis and children, Genella and Mickey, visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lewis and children. Linda, Dannie, and David of Azalea. Saturday Carolyn and Royer Lewis and children, Diana, Mickey and Genella made several visits. First they visited Mrs. Lewis’ sis ter and sons, Mrs. Jack Price and sons, Jerry and Rodney, then they visited Mr. Lewis’ daughter in Candler, Mr. and Mrs. Earl C. Jones, then they visited Mr. Lew is’ other daughter and family in Asheville, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hens ley and sons Miles and Mickie. Jimmie Treadway of Woodfin is moving to Azalea this week to live with Mr. and Mrs. Horace Hel ton. The M. Y. F. of Azalea Metho dist church met Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. Ray Carver. Those attending were: Carolyn Bryant, Faye Fender, Rose Wil son, Bobby Fender, Earl Carver and Junior Ricker, Charles Whit son, David Whitson, Jerry Strange, J. R. Carver, Jimmy Palace, Clara Lewis, June Holston, and Donna There was a delightful B.T.L. picnic at the Wallace Pool last Friday evening. This social was given in honor of Steve Byrd who is going away to work during the summer. Mr. and Mrs. I. T. Brooks and Mrs. Earl Jolly sponsored the party, young folks attending were Billy Sue Rickman, \vonne Luns ford, Barbara Burke, Daphne Jol ly, Doris Nanney, Loretta Brooks, Donna Vee Gray, Steve Byrd, Cal vin Brooks, Carl Nanny, Eric Jol lv, and Stanford Brooks. ‘ Mr. and Mrs. Henry Moring have started housekeeping in the home of Henry's childhood. We wish these fine young folks every suc cess. Henry is working in the Beacon. I guess the editorial staff will notice that I have a new ribbon. It’s funny how a certain thing makes you think of a certain per son. When I sit down at this an tiquated typewriter 1 often think of Mary Sue Reed, that charming young lady whose picture was in last week’s News, you know I bought the machine from her sev eral years ago. I probably bought the ribbon in honor of her gradua tion from nursing school. I got lost in the Beacon the oth er night, the worst thing about it was that I was dragging a 950 lb. bale of rayon after me on a hand truck. Is an elderly man that tries his fortune with daisies a doddering old fool, or a romanticist? Mrs. Edith Matthews of Ashe ville was our house guest this week-end. Mrs. Matthews is Min nie’s aunt. Joe and Polly Brunei and fam ily of East Marion had Sunday dinner with us. Mrs. Pink Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Knowlton, Gerald Lewis, and Danny Knowl ton of Old Fort visited us Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. George Summer and small son “Buddy” of New berry, S. C., are spending a week in this section. The Summers came here on their honeymoon several years ago, and have tried to come back each year at the same time. The Summer family presented our church with a beautiful picture of Christ at the morning service this Sunday in memory of their be loved mother, Mrs. Essie Summer Miller. We deeply appreciate this lovely gift. Lewis. The next meeting will be at the home of June Holston. We had as guests Mr. and Mrs. Mac Bur nette, Mrs. Della Hurst, Mrs. N. L. Perkins, Mr. Charlie Stancil, and two of Bob Cole’s children all of Ridgecrest. Mac made a most entertaining talk about the his tory of our church, and our be loved Peai'l played a medley of hymns on her accordion. After the meeting, we went over to the dam with Mrs. Perkins and Mr. Stancil. Mrs. Bascom Burnette has been in the Mission hospital taking treatment for sometime, but we understand that she was to come j home on Sunday. Baxter Chandler and Thelma Williams are definitely “that way” | about each other. Mrs. Mallie Burnette Carver of | Greensboro is dangerously ill. Mrs. Carver was born and reared on North Fork, and has many friends in this community. George Burnette is doing some inside finish work on the home of the Bob Hauths. Our road work is coming right along, maybe next week I will give you some recollections about this old road. Betty Jean Shook’s dog, Chief, is seriously sick.
