Pastoi Christian Creek Baptist Church \\ ISDOM FOR I» \ 11CS LIVING Lesson Material: Prov. 4:10 15; 18, lit. Memory V'erse: Prov. ;: .>,<> "Trust in the Lord with all thim heart and lean not into thine own understanding. Dotson In all thy ways acknowledge him and He shall di rect thy paths." Prov. .1:1-2. Solomon h e r e calls the atten tion of his son to his law and com mandments, tell ing him not to "forget” his law. and to keep his commandme nts. A gooil memory holds an impor tant place in the life of obedience. To forget the law is to neglect and transgress it. The son who forgets his father's rules, also neglects and disobeys them. There fore, interest in Cod’s proscribed duties will cause the Christian to remember those duties. This, be loved, is greatly needed these days. There are great number of professed people of God who seem to take very little intero-t in what God has revealed in IDs Wore concerning Christian Living. They apparently do as they please. Oh, that they would take an inter, r-t and remember! Let us carefully note, however, that in the present dispensation of grace, tilings are entirely different. At this time eternal life is the gift of God, through Jesus Christ the Lord, received by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. John .".:14-Dh Length of days are not now assur ed for Godly living, and many of the Lord’s true and devoted lie., pie, for one reason or another, depart this life quite early. The is not to say that devotion to Jes . Christ and Godly living are n ' owned and blest of the Lord; for they are in many ways. In nr r\ instances, also devotion to J. Christ and Godly living contrihu*. to physical health and longer liv ing. But these things are not promised and assured as special blessing for obedience in the pres ent dispensation. During the present dispensation the believer on the Lord Je.-u. Christ is freely justified by grace, and being justified, he has peace with God through our Lord .b Christ. (Rom. 3:24; 5:1; Eph. 2:1-1 > Nothing can be more blessed ami wonderful than a heart and mine at rest amid the raging storms of life, being guarded by the pe'o-i of God. Verses 3-4. Holding to Mercy and Truth. Mercy and truth are twins of grace; they live and thrive to got he; Solomon would have h>? -on remember that adhering tc and practicing mercy and trti‘1 would bring him the respect ol Cod and man, and would demon -!rate the fact that he was trulj wise. Th: reminds us of the fac' that true piety or Godliness is m ticed by God and men. Concern ing the Child Jesus Christ we rear that He ‘'increased in wisdom am stature and in favor with God am Mon." (Luke 2:52). We note however, that in after years Jesu: found little favor with the Jewisl rulers. They hated Him with : hitter hatred, and again and agaii sought to take His life. But Hi found favor with those whose fav or was worth having. We fin similar sentiment concerning tl -arly Christians (Acts 2:47). The; had ''favour' with all the people.' T , doe- not mean that all tin people accepted their faith, but i does mean that all the people hat respoet for them because of tin implicit\ and purity of their lives Verses 5-C Putting our trus in God. "In all thy ways acknowledgi him. and he shall direct thy paths. It i not “He may direct thy paths, but If will” do so. Where Got i acknowledged in all the affair of life, there Divine guidance i certain, sure and safe. Verses 4:10-15. Again it is im portant to remember our parenta instructions, when we are standinf in the fare of wickedness and an tempted to lie lured into its snares We should remember that we havi hi n warned before to turn fron them. Verses IN-li). The way of tin just, which is here described is en tircly different from the way o evil men. Because they walk ii dnrknos . the wicked walk in con slant danger: they stumble "They do not know wickedness a wickedness, nor do they appro hend the destruction which it in \olve ." (l’ul. Com.) The wickei walk in darkness and therefon they know not from whence th< temptation to evil, the nature o their evil deeds, nor the misery am de-t ruction which lies before them (I Sam. 2:!*: Job 18:5,6,18; 24 I-. 59:10; John 3:19; 11:10 12:35,36.)
