This unforget able character will be portrayed by A. C. Ownbey of Black Mountain, a Montreat college junior. For 90 years historians have at tempted to prove that Abraham Lincoln never loved Mary Todd; hat he married her out of duty ind confusion; that she was a rial and a cross he had to bear. BOX 794 w As We See Ourselves —Scott. “The music goes around and around ...” The referenec is to our assembly programs, many of them featuring John Cooley and ; his Combo. If you haven’t heard the Combo, you’ve missed some thing mighty fine, and if you have n’t heard of the Combo, you might be interested to know that the First World War is over. Yessir! Mr. Cooley is a big man when he has a trumpet in his hand. That reference to music might well be applied to the everyday grind at Owen. Seems like there are two other things to do just as soon as you finish this, and you step to a lively tune. For instance, the Beta Club is inducting new members. It’s all top secret, confidential, but if the honor roll is any indication, the Beta club will double or triple its membership sometime soon. You can get quite a reaction in junior and sophomore hopeful circles by the most casual mention of new Beta’s. There’s a rumor, too, about a grand dance, sponsored jointly by the Student Council and the Beta club, or else two shindigs, one for each organization. Time and place are undecided as yet, but a cor dial invitation has been extended to everybody with the price of admission or a rich feller. Any news from Owen that fails to mention the cafeteria is a gross niscarriage of justice. Vood is ust naturally dear to a ten-agei s icart and no other subject can ouse such enthusiasm around iere. Pin a rose on the lunchroom taff, from Mrs. Deal on down! “What can you do?” “Well, what lo you want to do?” That’s the itory in the senior English classes, rhe emphasis is on the future and ;ven more strongly on each indi vidual’s ability to shape his des tiny.
