Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dougherty ant daughter, Miss Nancy Dougherty returned last week from a vaca tion at Daytona Beach, Fla. Last Friday Mrs. H. R. Leiten berger and her mother, Mrs Mary Overing, Mrs. Fred Warner and her mother. Mrs. Leitenberger and Mrs. H McGuire Wood were entertained with a luncheon at the George Vanderbilt hotel by Mrs. Fred Hester. Mrs. J N. Wright has returned alter spending some time with her sister, Mrs. \V. D. Cantrell, who has been a patient in a Lakeland. Fla., hospital. Mrs. Cantrell lives in Mulberry, Fla. Mr. and Mrs Claude Rice and children. Kathy and Randy, spent the past few days visiting Mrs. Rice's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Simmons and sister and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Reese and child ren of Dunedin. Fla. Dr. and Mrs. Herbert Daugherty left Sunday for a vacation in St. Petersburg, Fla. Mrs. Ot.ty Leernan returned last Thursday from a visit with her brother, Paul Norman, of Wash ington, D. C. She made the trip to Washington by plane. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Tarbert will leave April 4 for a week’s vaca tion in Miami, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Kerlee spent the week end in Charleston, S. C. They w-ent especially to see the magnolias in bloom. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Nesbitt of Fletcher, route 1, parents of T. W. Nesbitt of Black Mountain, will celebrate their 50th wedding an niversary Easter Sunday. They will have open house Sunday from 2:30 to 5 p.m. in their Cane Creek community home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Dr. Richard Thompson of the Baptist hospital in Winston-Salem spent the week end visiting Mr. md Mrs. Clarence Wilson and amily, and Miss Sara Rice. Dr. fhompson’s home is in Macon. Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tarbert, Mrs. H. E. Stinchcomb, and Mr. and Mrs. Guy B. Holt has returned to her home in Ellijay, Ga., after 1 spending the winter in the home . of her daughter, Mrs. J. N. Wright. Mr. and Mrs. James Somerville and daughter, Mary Hughes, and niece, Margaret Smith, of Alice ville, Ala., were week end guests of Mrs. J. W. Bergthold and her mother, Mrs. H. F. Egar. Mr. and Mrs. George M. Tratos have sold their home on Gold mont street and are leaving Thurs day (today) for Salt Lake City, Utah, to make their home. They wil visit relatives in High Point and Raleigh for a week before going to Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Al bert Jern from Illinois, who have been residing in Montreat, bought the Tratos home. They will take possession immediately. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Finch spent the past week vacationing in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Lawrence Brandon left Sunday for San Francisco, Calif., where he will be associated in business with his sister-in-law. Mrs. Rich ard E. Smith, the former Miss Betty Deaver of Black Mountain. Mr. Brandon has been employed by McMurray Chevrolet company here for approximately 15 years. Mrs. Brandon and sons will join Mr. Brandon in the near future. Miss Sara Moseley left last Fri day for Alexandria, Va., after a visit there she will go to Balti more. Md., to join Miss Alice Hardie who is returning to Mon treat after spending the winter in Baltimore. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Bickett and three children of Salisbury spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. W. W. White. Mr. Bickett is Mrs. White’s brother Fred Lucas of Mount Airy, a former resident of Black Moun tain. was a visitor in town last Monday. Mr. ’and Mrs. W. G. Wells Jr. had as a supper guest last Thurs day night Mrs. Wells’ uncle. R. F,. Templeton of Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Williams and George and Mrs. George Pritchard returned Sunday night from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Harmon in Apopka. Fla. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Longcoy Sr. have returned to their home af ter being away for three months. They visited members of Mr. Long coy’s family in Little Rock. Ark., for a month. After leaving Little Rock they went to Miami via Vicksburg, Miss., New Orleans, Biloxi, Miss., Dauphin Island, Mo bile and Panama City. They visit ed Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Requa in Miami. Returning home they spent a week in Eau Gallie, Fla., with Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Greene of Black Mountain. I. stopped in Savannah to visit the T. H. Guerry family. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Viverette re turned Sunday from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Billy Martin of Cherry Grove Beach, S. C., and Mrs. W. D. Brown at Myrtle Beach. They also spent some time at Wrightsville Beach. Mrs. Martin accompanied them home and is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brooks of Cragmont road. Mrs. R. T. Greene was guest uf honor at several parties last week during her visit in Durham with her aunt, Mrs. Nonie C. Lips comb. (From the Durham paper) A luncheon Saturday at the Car olina Inn, Chapel Hill, honoring Mrs. Richard T. Greene of Black Mountain, was just one in a round of “glad you're home” parties in her honor the past week. The former Carrington Holman of Dur ham is the niece of Mrs. Nonie C. Lipscomb, who gave the Satur day party. Mrs. Lipscomb said "This is the first time I've been able to get Carrington home for a little vacation without the fam ily, and I’m taking full advantage of being able to entertain her”. Decorations for the table consist ed of spring flowers and hand made place cards. On Thursday Mrs. Burke Hobgood and Mrs. C. H. Burnette entertained with a bridge luncheon in Mrs. Greene’s honor, and Friday Mrs. H. B. Em ory honored Mrs. Greene with a luncheon.” Vivian Hall Bushong of Ashe ville has chalked up 25 years of service with Carolina Power & Light company and is eligible for membership in the company's Pioneer club. Pioneer Bushong will be init iated and receive her diamond centered Pioneer pin when the club holds its annual banquet hon :>ring new Pioneer club members n April The organization of 25 .car employees now includes over 100 members. A native of Clinton. Mo., Mrs. Sushong attended the Clinton High school and is a home economics graduate of Kansas State college. She joined CP&L on Dec. 15. 1929. as the Urst company home econo mist. In 1S39. she became man ager of the sales and service floor and in 1941 headed a customer public relations group. She be came credit manager in 1944 and at present works with the com pany's Finer Carolina program in the western division. Mrs. Bushong is a member of the Trinity Episcopal church. An active Civic worker, she is a mem ber of the Woman’s Civic club of Asheville and is chairman of the public affairs committee of the state clubs. She is on the Girl Scout office committee, is a mem ber of the American Association of University Women and is a member of the Asheville Country club. As her hobbies she includes golf and bridge. WILL SAIL APRIL 6 FOR TOUR OF EUROPE Miss Caroline Hall and Miss Emma Reid Southworth were hon ored Wednesday night, March 21, with a Bon Voyage party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Moray. Misses Hall and South worth are sailing, April 6, from New York on the “Ivernia” for a tour of Europe. Arrangements of japonica and daffodills were used on the small tables where a dessert course was served by the hosts. The dining table was centered with a display of daffodills in a silver bowl and silver candle holders with lighted yellow candles. Those present were the honored guests. Miss Ruby Hall, Howard Hall. Miss Genevieve Fisher, Mrs. J. W. Bergthold and her mother, Mrs. H. F. Egar, Mrs. Charles Mertle and her niece Mrs. Mark Weil of California, Miss Mary Young, Howard Gorham, Misses Mary, Leila and Bertha Walters, Fred Schnelz, Arthur Radcliffe, Mrs. Mary E. Aleshire, Miss Lila Corbett, and the Morays. This clipping will entitle Mrs. Claude Silvers and one guest to free admission to see “The Twink le in God's Eye” at the Pix Theater. Mrs. Cecil Lawson Mrs. Herman Fender, and Mr Betty Sorrells. Teachers of the Methodist church met Friday night for a workers’ conference. Discussion was made in regards to becoming better teachers and plans were made for the Vacation Bible school. Rev. Harold Strader pre sided at the meeting in the ab sence of A B Yow. Present were Kent Hampton, Mr. and Mrs. Wat er Cooper. Mrs. Wallace Steven Lee Stevens. R. L. Dyer. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cooper visited their son and daughter-in law, Rev. and Mrs. Walter R. Cooper of Statesville on Sunday Rev. Cooper is pastor of Wesley Memorial church. Statesville. Rev. and Mrs. W. R. Cooper and family plan to visit here this coming week end to attend flic Biltmore Alumni banquet. Edwin Hymes and James Lewis are planning to enter the army soon.
