Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stafford went to Augusta, Ga., over the week-end to see William P. Mc Nair receive his doctor’s degree from the Medical college of Geor gia an Saturday night. Dr. Mc Nail will serve his internship in the Orangeburg General hospital, Orangeburg, S. C. Mrs. McNair is the former Miss Sue Reed of Black Mountain. The Staffords stopped in Greenwood on their way home to visit bis nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Dickert. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Anderson and Robert stopped en route from Philadelphia to Montgomery, Ala., to spend several days with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. An derson and Mr. and Mrs. George McElrath. Mr. Anderson has been transferred to the U. S. Naval Re serve Training Center in Mont gomery. Mrs. Hattie Burgess has gone to Palm Beach, Fla., to join her daughter, Miss Harriet Burgess, who left several weeks ago. They will make their home in Palm Beach. Mrs. Burgess was accom panied to Florida by her sister, Mrs. Pearl Hatfield of Miami. Col. David G. Wilson, Mrs. Wil son and their two sons, David Jr., and James Allan, stopped en route to their home in Fort Benning. Ga., to spend last Monday night with Misses Ann and Lvde Wil son. They were returning from Chattanooga where David Jr. was graduated from McCallies Military Academy on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Simon Rerggrun have moved from Spartanburg, S. C., and are residing in the West Terrace apartments, West Ashe ville. Mr. Berggrun is affiliated with J. C. Penney and company. He was transferred from the Spartanburg store to Asheville. Mrs. Berggrun is the former Miss Marilyn Cook of Black Mountain. Mr and Mrs. Norman Surrett , will celebrate their wedding anni- . versary on June 10. Evans M and Judy left last Friday for a in two weeks’ vacation at Daytona M Beach, Fla. c' Clarence L. Frady has accepted a position as maintenance engineer at Memorial Mission hospital in Asheville. He has been employed at McMurray Chevrolet company for the past 16 years. Mr. Frady will assume his new duties on June 11. Mrs. Frady, who successfully passed a course in nutrition and diet therapy last September, is food service supervisor in the dietary dept., of Memorial Mission hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph LeVine and daughters, Charlotte and Mar ian, left Monday for a 10-day sight-seeing; trip in Washington, D. C.. and New York. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. White. Mrs. G. L. Kirkpatrick and Mack and Miss Bronte Jumper spent several days last week at Myrtle Beach. Mrs. L. A. Hiltz accompanied her brother, Rear Admiral G. C. Crawford and Mrs. Crawford to their home in Charleston, S. C.. last week. The Crawfords spent several davs last week at their home, “Forkliff.” North Fork. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stahler and children, Ernest Jr., and Margaret of Hendersonville, spent the week end with Mrs. O. C. Leiter. May 28. with 22 members and one visitor present. Mrs. Mary Alshire gave a most helpful devo tional. Her topic was “The Im mediacy of Things—immediacy of time, of work, of love, and wor ship." She read verses from the 8th chapter of Romans. During the business session an offering was taken for the cancel fund. It was also voted to help with the Bible teacher fund. The president, Mrs. Samuel Morris, ask each member to bring a gift of monev to the June meeting. The H. D. agent, Mrs. Mamie Sue Evans, gave a demonstration and informative talk on furniture refinishing at home. She told how to select furniture for refinishing, cleaning and removing old finish. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Putnam of Morristown, Tenn.. was one of the Warren Wilson college graduates last week. The Put nams are former residents of Black Mountain. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kerlee Sr., are spending the summer at their home here after spending the win ter in La Belle, Fla. Mrs. Lawrence Penland of Mary ville, Tenn., spent last week with Mrs. W. B. Kyles. Dewey Thompson celebrated his birthday anniversary on Monday, Tune 4. ' Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gregg were guests at a chicken fry given by Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fuller Tuesday night at their home at Singing Water. On May 20 Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shope and Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Gregg made a trip to Georgia to see their grandfather, I,. C. Duvall who is sick. Some time ago I found a cocoon an a small tree limb. I broke it off and brought it to the house. One evening this week a big moth emerged from it, its colors were woven into a beautiful pattern of olack, white, red and gray. One sees so many beautiful things in :he country. Mrs. Anna Gregg has been nurs ng a swollen, painful leg for sev >ral days. She has about decided hat she has been slightly bitten ay some kind of poisonous snake, she was down among the tall veeds and grass and there were imall marks on her ankle like the >ricks of a needle.
