Meeks and Miss Edith Van Outer were hostesses in their lovely home to an all-day-study group on Tuesday, Feb. r,. Miss Vonme Lance of Asheville, Supt of Buncombe Associational W. M. I,., was teacher for the day, and the book discussed was “Home fenns-U. S. A.” by Dr. Courts Kedford. A social hour featuring a covered dish luncheon was en joyed at noon. The closing hour was given to the showing of color slides Miss Lance had made her self in her travels over Home Mis sion fields. Sharing this delight ful day were: Mrs. S. C. Gill, Mrs Mayme Gough, Mrs. C. V. Gray Mrs. E. F. Hardin, Mrs, R. e! Hurst, Mrs. Charles Jollay, Mrs! Cecil Perry, Mr. and Mrs. R. e' Truesdell, Miss Lance and the hostesses. R. A. Two dozen eager, active boys attended R. A. meeting at the church on Friday afternoon. Three new members from Old Toll road were Steve Hyder, Gary Hyder, and Mack Blizzard. It would be hard to decide who enjoys these meetings most—-Counselor Jackson or tile Royal Ambassadors. JR. G. A. Eight Junior girls met with Mrs. Lillian Gallamore on Monday af ternoon. Trooping up the hill through big flakes of falling snow, they were sodn enjoying delicious refreshments in their counselor’s cozy little apartment. “Looking Through the Window’ and “Bells roll’ were the interesting topics discussed in the program. Helen Johnson was received as a new member. Others present were Martha Allison, Linda Bradley, Deanna Belcher, Glenda Lakey, Janice Peek, Judy Pittman, and Sandra Wright. I NT. G. A. Here and There Friends of Mrs. Joe Moore sym pathize with her in the loss of her hrother, Robert Wynne, who died in Emergency hospital, Washing ton, D. C., on February fi after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted for him in Raleigh on Friday afternoon, feb. 8. Mr. and Mrs. John May and lit tle Kathy Ann from Valley Springs school spent the week-end with Mrs. May's mother, Mrs. Clarence Allison and family. Charles Belcher, on ten-day leave from Marine Supply Base in Edenton, N. C., has been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Belcher. William Creasman, home for sev eral days leave from the Navy, wears an unmistable sign of ap proaching maturity on his upper hp. J. D. Smith returned on Monday to Memorial Mission hospital as a patient. 'Mjer, a nionth of basking in Honda s sunshine, Mr. and Mrs. I'. M. Burnett arrived at home on 1 uesday of last week. Their va cation included a week’s hunting in Appalachacola National Forest with a nephew, Major Ammon Mc Clellan, after which they spent some days with a niece, Mrs. Rob ert Kramer in Rockledge, Fla. An other week was spent in Okeecho bee in the home of Major and Mrs. Ammon McClellan, and this was followed by a visit with Mrs. Bur nett’s sister, Mrs. Henry St. Onge and her husband in Palmetto. As a big finale they joined friends from Maryland and Delaware for fishing at Marothon. This was just another of those times when the “weaker sex” won, for our Anne surpassed all the crowd in this sport. A month is a long time—It is good to see lights on again at the Burnett’s! Mr. and Mrs. Willard K. Weeks returned on Sunday from an en joyable and profitable trip south and west in the interest of lining up the assembly staff for the coming season. In the 18 days they covered 3500 miles and con tacted more than 20 college camp uses in the states of Tenn., Ark., Okla., Texas, La., Miss., and Ala. In reply to a query as to whether they were weary from such a whirlwind trip, Mr. Weeks cheer ily replied: “Oh no! We accom plished our mission successfully and feel fine!” Spend-the-day guests of the El bert Hardins’ on Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. Carl Brittain, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hogan, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Poteet and son Mick ey, and Mrs. Moran Harbison, all of Morganton. 9 Art Sale Will Aid Heart Fund Through the generosity of Mrs. Irwin, the American Artist’s Pro fessional League and the North Carolina Heart association invite you to an exhibit and sale of wat er colors painted by the late Lieut. General S. Leroy Irwin. Proceeds from the paintings sold will be given to the Heart fund. For this Heart fund paintings will be sold for one third of the regular price. The exhibit is being held at the art gallery in the Manor, Asheville, from Feb. 10 through March 15. SORORITY GROUP PLANS COVERED DISH SUPPER Gamma Pi No. 507 sorority of Beta Sigma Phi met Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. Bill Brown. The program was on “Ex press Yourself,” presented by Mrs. Bill Brown. Three minute talks were given by each member and each girl was judged by secret ballot. Mrs. “Reggie” Heiser, presi dent, presided during the business meeting. Valentines were ad dressed by each member to be sent to the children at the T. B. San. Gifts for each child have been pur chased for a Valentine remem- ; brance. Plans were made for a covered dish supper Saturday night for the members and t heir husbands. A nominating committee was elected to present a state of of ficers at the next meeting. They were Glenna Klutz, Joan Brown, Mary Frances Stevens. After the meeting refreshments were served during the social hour. Those present were: Mrs. Riggie Heiser, Mrs. Gene Hughey, Mrs. Ben Marett, Mrs. Dempsey Whit aker, Mrs. Ed. Knight, Mrs. John Klutz, Mrs. Chester Sobol, Mrs. Bob Brown, and Mrs. Bill Brown. With The Sick Jane Ellen Simmons underwent tonsillectomy at St. Joseph’s hospital on Monday, Feb. 4. J. F.
