courtesy, ability to maintain or

Scholarships of $500 to each first
place boy and girl driver and $200
to the runners-up are offered.
Each of 60 district winners will
receive a $100 scholarship. Schol

1174 IN STATE CHARGED
WITH SPEED VIOLATIONS
RALEIGH — Speeding convic
tions on North Carolina highways
last month came to 1174, the De
partment of Motor Vehicles said
this week. Drunk drivers, with
’879 convictions, were in second
place in the agency’s regularly is
sued summary of license revokable
traffic offenses.
Miscellaneous violations ranging
from two counts of reckless driv
ing through incompetency, ran the
April total of convictions to 3886.
All of the offenses are punishable
by withdrawal of legal driving
privileges, the department said.
