trict novice boxing championship
held in Spangdahlem.

a visit with her son-in-law, daugh
ter and granddaughters, Mr. and
Mrs. Jim Chandler, Allison and
Sebring of North Augusta, S. C.

and spent several days before re

Ohio, is visiting her aunt, Mrs.
Charles Mertle of Blue Ridge road.

at Davidson college, was named to
head special services committee,
whose chief function is to super
vise the Easter and Christmas ser
vices. and to sponsor a proposed
student vesper service each sem
ester.

ing the winter in Sarasota, Fla.
Miss Sadie Fortune was elected
vice president of the student body
at Asheviile-Biltmore college Tues
day, May 13. Miss Fortune is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Fortune, star route. Black Moun
tain.
Mis. L. 11. Gregory’s Sunshine
school took a train ride to Old
Fort last Wednesday. They were
met there by several of the moth
ers who drove them back to the
state picnic grounds on the moun
tain. After the picnic and a good
time they returned home.

GETS SAFETY AWARD
WASHINGTON — Postmaster
General Arthur I.. Summerfield
said today he has been advised
that the Post Office department
has again—for the fourth consecu
tive year—been given the National
Safety council’s citation award
“for outstanding contributions'” to
the nation’s traffic safety in 11)57.
The Safety Council has just no
tified the department that it is one
of 12 organizations over the na
tion winning the coveted safety
honor in 1957.

For W, E. Lunsford
Last rites for W. E. (Bill) Luns
ford. fit), who died Monday, May
12, in an Asheville hospital, were
held Wednesday in the Bee Tree
Christian church of which he was
a member, with the Rev. Francis
Lunsford officiating. Burial was
in the Bee Tree cemetery.
Mr. Lunsford was a lifelong res
ident of Buncombe county and re
sided on Lakey Gap road.
Survivingg are four sons, Orval
and VV. K., Jr., of Swannanoa, and
Clarence and Grady of Detroit,
five daughters, Mrs. Wade Worley
of Black Mountain, Mrs. Loyn
