It brings a sense of fulfillment . . . helps me to practice charity, patience, justice . . . enables me to learn with youth and from youth and thus keeps me youthful. “At night I can sleep in deep gratitude for a golden opportun ity to serve . . . and w,ith a feel ing of accomplishment, knowing that I have not served for naught.” SHOPE CREEK Mrs. Thelma Buckner We had a little excitement at our house Monday morning about 5 o’clock, a red-sided gray fox followed our old hound out of the woods to the house. They fought a. while in the yard, then the dog gave up and left, and our blue Persian cat took over. She fought a good fight. Then the fox made a pass at Mom who was on the porch. She threw stovewood till she knocked it down. She held it down with the wood and I called Tony Creastnan, he came and shot it and called the dog-catcher who came and picked it up. We also had to part with our be loved Poochie who had caught 14 snakes last summer. She was 6 years old. We have the dog con fined until we get the report. Mr. and Mrs. James C. Fuller of Singing Water, celebrated their twelfth wedding anniversary on June 8. Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Crist, Jr., and Teddy have returned home af ter about 10 days’ vacation at Winter Haven, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McMillan of Lower Shope Creek left Friday for a tour of northern California, they plan to be gone a month. Young Steve Shope was taken to an Asheville hospital after hav ing been struck in the mouth with a baseball. He returned home af ter receiving about four ditches. Tommy Nichols was playing with some of his little friends when one of them cast a stone that accidently struck him on the head which resulted in his being taken to the doctor for a stitch. Jackson B. Nichols is suffering with a siege of tonsilitis. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Moody, Sr., of Clay county have been visiting members of their family in Swan nanoa. Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Moody and Jerry took them home and remained till after Memorial day week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Whitakei and Bruce, and Mr. and Mrs. Hen ry Ingle, Jr., enjoyed a picnic a' Old Fort Picnic park on Frida} night of last week. They alsi stopped to visit a while with Mrs C. L. Morris and children. Dean Robinson of Dennis street Swannanoa, spent the holida; week-end with Ronnie King o Jones Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Troy Gregg wer our guests for lunch on Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ingle, Jr observed their llith wedding an niversary on June 6. SOLOMON IS ONE OF POSTMASTERS AT U.S. CONVENTION Mrs. Charles Solomon, acting postmaster at Montreat, has re turned from the state convention of the National Postmasters in the United States which was held in Winston-Salem Wednesday through Saturday of last week, beginning on June 4. Over 250 postmasters in this state attended. Mrs. Solomon served oft the distinguished guests committee with Postmasters Mark Sumner of Asheville, and G. Isham Henderson of Tryon. From this area also was Postmaster James Parks of Swun nanoa. The Western North Carolina Postmasters announced they are honored to present to the postal patrons of the 12th Congressional District the new State President Mark Sumner, postmaster at Ashe ville. Mr. Sumner was the 1958 district chairman, and has been a ready source of help for Mon treat and near-by small post of fices, the group stated. Special speaker for the Winston Salem meeting was Assistant Post master General John M. McKibbin. Jr., whose forceful remarks were widely read all over the state.
