Sheriffs of the Nation Elect Broun Black Mountain received nauon-wiae puo licity. the kind that can't be bought at any price, last week when a native son. Laurence E. Brown, was installed as president of the National Sheriffs’ association at the conclus ion of the 18th annual convention in Phil adelphia. ililS means mai iui mu iicai yvai uui turn munity will be in the national spotlight as Sheriff Brown guides the activities of the 3000 members in the 48 states. This is a great honor for the Swannanoa Valiev. Buncombe county, and North Caro lina. It is one more step in the success lad der which covers more than 30 years of ser vice. The Black Mountain native has been elected to the office and has spent more time as sheriff than any other man in our state's history. His record is too well known to all to be repeated here, but during his more than a quarter of a century as “High Sheriff” no major crime in the county has gone unsolved and in recent years the junior deputy program in Buncombe has been so successful that it has attracted the attention of groups in many states. The News congratulates the new president and the organization which he will head. For 1958-59 the National Sheriff’s association will be in capable hands. Swannanoa News BY MRS. \Y. A. MASSEY. JR.
