Capacity Crowd Hears Oratorio There was music in the air at Ridgecrest Baptist assembly the past week when almost 3,000 mus icians assembled for the annual Southern Baptist Leadership con ference. Dr. W. Hines Sims of the de partment of church music, Baptist Sunday School board, was the di rector of the conference. A capacity crowd was on hand for the presentation of Felix Men delssohn’s oratorio, “St. Paul,” by the 600-voice choir Tuesday night. Depicting the life of Paul, the oratorio was directed by Dr. War ren M. Angell, dean of fine arts at Oklahoma Baptist university. Soloists were Audrey Nossaman, soprano from the University of Louisville who studied at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, Italy; bass, James Berry, minister of music at the First Bap tist church, Austin, Tex.; Claude Rhea, tenor, an instructor at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, who is doing work at Florida State University, and Ann Roberts, alto from Oklahoma Bap tist university. Berry and Rhea record for a prominent religious music recording company. Rose Marie Cooper, Oklahoma Baptist University student, was the pianist, and Robert Fort, Cok er college, was the organist. Because of the deluge of music ians and their musical needs, it was necessary to install additional instruments in the assembly build ings. Eight new pianos and three organs were brought in, bringing the total instruments on the grounds to forty pianos and five organs. Crowning the thunderous musi cal refrains from the auditorium was the huge custom-made organ on the stage. Owned and installed by the Wick Organ company of Highland, 111., the organ consisted of 1021 pipes and is valued at $20,500. George Gibbon, general manager of the company, demon strated the instrument and coun seled music directors concerning organ problems. Look Who’s Here! Twin sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel W. Patton of Swan nanoa, June 22, in St. Joseph’s hospital. Mr. and Mrs. James L. Losh of Swannanoa have a daughter born June 24 in St. Joseph’s hospital. Mr. and Mrs. William D. Sim mons announce the birth of a daughter Katherine Louise, June 23, in St. Joseph’s hospital.
