After the decoration of the graves we carried our picnic bas ket and went out on Crooked Creek to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edney Lackey and had lunch with them. In the afternoon we visited with the Guy Hensley family and W. L. Brown. We saw several of our kinsfolk we had not seen for several years. The Clyde Ledfords of Ohio and Mrs. Bill Shuford and children of St. Petersburg, Fla., were in the group. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Creasman of West Asheville, were recent week-end guests of the G. R. Creas mans of Jones Cove. A Training union study course started on Aug. 20 at Berea Bap tist church and will continue for about five weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Thalus (Red) Shope and daughter Jamie of Witchita, Kans., are spending their vacation here with relatives. Wafer Levels RALEIGH - Although seasonal declines began in some areas, wat er levels in North Carolina re mained above normal in June, ac cording' to the monthly water re sources report issued Friday by the State Board of Water Commis sioners. The report, based on informa tion from the LT. S. Geological Sur vey, said scattered sh o w e r s throughout the month helped keep stream flows in the western Pied mont above normal for the tenth consecutive month. Runoff at the Yadkin River index station at Wilkesboro since last October 1 is the highest on record for the per iod. Flows began to decline to ward the end of the month. The rainfall total of 2.22 inches recorded at Charlotte was 1.22 deficient for the month but the excess for the year is 1.61 inches. Streams in the mountain region also were above normal for the tenth consecutive month, although they declined to near average ai the end of June.
