All too familiar. And sure it’s okay, as long as you don’t get caught. The attitude of a great many people is that anything goes as long; as you can get away with it, when it comes to the observance of traffic laws and traffic regula tions. Safety officials of the State Mo tor Vehicles department know that this attitude is a sign of more basic failings in today’s society, but they also know that they alone can’t cure the ills of the entire society. It is impossible to put a state trooper along every mile of highway, but people such as we’ve been talking about cari’t be trust ed to police themselves. However, even these people are caught sooner or later 'by Lady Luck. They will, almost invari ably, test her powers once too of Final Rites For Mrs. Williams Funeral services were held Mon day afternoon, Dec. 1, in Homer’s Chapel Baptist church for Mrs. Alice Gouge Williams, 80, who died Saturday at the home of her son, Floyd, of Cherokee ave. The Rev. Wilco Melton, the Rev. Robert Clayton and the Rev. George Rey nolds officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Delmar Wil liams, J. L. Lowery, George Wil liams, Billy Williams, Johnny Bartlett and Roy Bartlett. Grand daughters were flower-bearers. Surviving are three other sons, Ranee, Theo and Hilliary; two daughters, Mrs, Effie Bartlett and Mrs. Woodrow Propst, all of Black Mountain; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Florence Burnett of Little Switz erland; a stepson, Tom Williams of Spruce Pine; a sister, Mrs. Steve Hollifield of Marion; 45 grand children and 58 great-grandchil dren. What they haven’t as yet been made to understand is that nobody gets away with anything indefin itely . . . and this includes traffic law violations. Even if they are never caught by an officer of the law, they will be caught sooner or later by their own lawlessness. If anyone had an easy solution to this problem of disregard and disrespect for our traffic laws and regulations, he would deserve at least a Nobel Prize for doing a great serviee to humanity. How ever, no such '‘sure thing” seems to be in the offing. So for the present, we must continue to rely on the tried and true: Education, Engineering and Enforcement. • RADIO & T.V.
