City, Tenn., sister of Mrs. Jack
Milton of Black Mountain, will ap
pear on television this week in
“The Big Pay Off." This program
comes on the air from Xew York
at 3 p.m. on Channel 3. Mrs. Ald
ridge is the former Miss Janell
Lewis and is well known here.
N'ancy Lackey visited her grand
mother, Mrs. Z. L. Lackey, and
other relatives in Old Fort last
week-end.
Among newcomers to Black
Mountain are Mr. and Mrs. E. A.
Callahan. They moved here from
Fair Lawn. N. J., and are residing
in Mrs. A vena’s home on Old Ashe
ville Highway 70. Mr. Callahan
is with Kearfott company.
Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Guess are
home after a month’s stay in Win
ter Haven, Sarasota, St. Peters
burg and Key West, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stepp and
children of Huntsville, Ala., were
here last week to visit his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Finley Stepp. They
came especially for his father's
birthday anniversary Feb. 22.

Company of Virginia's Asheville
district office, attended the com
pany’s leaders convention at the
Atlanta-Biltmore hotel in Atlanta
March 1 through the 4th. The in
vitation to attend was extended to
Mr. Plummer in recognition of
outstanding sales and superior ser
vice to policy owners during 1958.
J. G. Shields, Black Mountain
masonry contractor, has been
awarded contracts for new Jackson
County schools, also jobs in Glen
ville.
Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Merrill
and son Bobby, of Winston-Salem,
spent Sunday here with his moth
er, Mrs. Harvey Pressley and Mr.
Pressley and brother, Clarence and
her aunt, Mrs. Fred Cook.

from Dayton, Ohio, where she

Elmore Burnette of Bee Tree
has been sick for the past year and
not able to get out very much.
Jim Kilby of Long Branch road
had an attack of flu this past week,
but is better at this time.

eymoon in Florida and are living in
their new home in Alexander.
Mrs. Bridges is the former Miss
Margaret Ann Sawyers, daughter
of J. B. Sawyers of Bee Tree. Her
brother Jackie Bob, visited them
last week-end.
Mr. and Mrs. Verlen Bartlett of
Summer Haven, are parents of a
baby daughter born Feb. 25 at St.
Joseph hospital.
Morris Shope of Bee Tree road
is erecting a new house near the
site of the present one.

sick for some time and confined
to her bed, but is doing nicely at

Raymond Shope has returned to
his home on Ree Tree road. He
has been in St. Joseph’s hospital
for a week.

road has been in St. Joseph’s hos
pital for the past week.

tle son has been very sick with
pneumonia but is . better at the
time of this writing. They live
on Long Branch.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Edwards of
Bee 1 ree road have had some very
sick children who had measles this
past week.
Word ha s been received that
Floyd Howie, who has serv d four
years in the Navy, has returned
to his home in Michigan. He is
the son of Chorum Howie. He came
by car from Los Angeles, Calif.,
said roads were very hazardous
due to bad weather.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Edwards of
Bee i. road are staying with
Mrs. Duckett at present. Mrs.
Edwards is Mrs. Duckett’s daugh
ter.
Visiting with Mrs. Duckett Sun
day was Miss Jean Merchant, Sam
Blank. Mrs. Jim Kilby, her daugh
ter and son-in-law, the Ray Ellises.
Herbert and Kenneth Howie,
sons of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Howie,
are sick with cold and flu.

sity of N. C. Wilbur is in the
school of pharmacy and Donald in
medicine.

at Wake Forest.

fined to their home with the

Mrs. Eugene Byrd is ill with
mumps.
